But Orthros is trickier than it seems, and there are a few secrets to beat this creature that can wipe out an entire party in a few turns. So, here’s how to beat Orthros in Bravely Default, including the best Jobs to have, and the correct strategy to beat him in any difficulty level.

How To Defeat Orthros in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster

Orthros is one of the main bosses in the adventure, and players will face it at the end of Chapter 1, once players have taken the Rainbow Thread back to receive the Vestal Garments. With the ceremonial garb back in the power of Agnès, the group needs to return to the Wind Crystal Temple. Cross the hallway past the Red Adventurer to enter the Crystal Room and face the boss. This two-headed dog has several annoying attacks, so here’s a rundown on its mechanics:

  • Blazzard (Frost Breath): Orthros shoots an AoE that deals Ice damage to all party members, which is often followed up by its flaming breath or several physical attacks. The indicator for this attack is the left head (blue), having blue fire coming out of its mouth.
  • Hellfire (Fire Breath): Orthros shoots an AoE that causes Fire damage to the whole group, and follows up with Frost Breath in case it hasn’t used it yet. The indicator for this attack is the right head (orange), having blue fire coming out of its mouth.
  • Flaming Fangs: The boss lunges and bites one or several of the party members in quick succession, causing fire damage.
  • Bite: A physical attack that might strike a singular target more than once.

When one of the heads of Orthros is defeated, the remaining one will become ‘enraged,’ unleashing a quick succession of attacks that can wipe out the party. To prevent this, kill both heads at the same time.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD: How to Unlock All 24 Jobs

Jobs are how players get their skills and abilities in Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD, so here’s how to unlock all 24 of them.

The secret to beating Orthros is to take things one turn at a time, and only use Brave when buffing the party, or healing after a wave of attacks. Players need to have at least one White Mage and one Black Mage in the party. Follow this strategy to beat Orthros with ease:

  1. At the beginning of the fight, use Brave x2 with the Black Mage and target the orange head with Blizzard. Then, target the blue head with Fire. Since both heads are vulnerable to their opposite element, this will make them get ‘stunned,’ and players will notice the flaming and frost breath from both heads has disappeared. This indicates that the AoE elemental attacks are deactivated. Othros will recover in 5 turns, so keep repeating this on the 5th turn to after canceling the breath attack to keep your party safe from being wiped.
  2. Use Shell and Protect with the White Mage to raise the elemental and physical defenses of the party, and then use Cure All to recover from Orthros barrage of physical attacks.
  3. Use the remaining two party members to attack one of the heads each, lowering their HP in even ways to prevent the boss from entering ‘rage mode.’

Players can use the Thief class to steal some interesting goodies from each of the heads. The blue head has an Antarctic Wind and a Potion, while the orange head drops a Bomb Fragment and an Ether.

Keep working step by step, and don’t rush using Brave x4 or there will be hell to pay since Orthros will take this chance to destroy either the White or the Black mage, making the whole strategy crumble.
