With Disney owning the Marvel IP, someday players may see superheroes coexisting alongside beloved Disney characters in Dreamlight Valley.

While human and humanoid villagers take up most of the spotlight, Disney Dreamlight Valley also offers companion characters in the form of small animals, including generic animals and actual characters like Moana‘s Heihei the chicken and Pua the piglet. The game’s official website is currently offering players the chance to collectively design the next companion through a five-round vote, which aims to determine the companion’s species, style, and other details. Two rounds of voting have already expired, with 41 percent of voters choosing a baby dragon out of a pool of 14 different animal types, and a cottagecore aesthetic winning out over styles like fairycore, witch/wizard, royalty, and steampunk. The third vote is currently ongoing, asking players to select neckwear or other attire for the new companion, and the themes of the final two rounds are still a secret.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Lets Fans Decide the Next Companion Animal

Players’ choices in the Community Companion Design Challenge will carry a lot of weight following the game’s next update. An official Disney Dreamlight Valley Developer Update video released a few days ago mentioned that starting with the release of Mysteries of Skull Rock on June 18, players will be able to build friendship levels with companions. This function should work similarly to the way it does with regular villagers, as spending time and interacting with companions will level them up and unlock new rewards.

As Disney Dreamlight Valley looks to expand its roster even further, the developers have already shared some other exciting updates through the tease of its next roadmap. Late summer should see an update centered around the Inside Out franchise, with a return to the world of Beauty and the Beast in the fall, including what the developers call “an enchanting new duo.” Finally, fans should expect a winter update that includes another new villager, which is likely from Cinderella.
