Actors That Should Play Godrick in the Elden Ring Movie

Now that an Elden Ring movie has officially been announced, the next impending reveal is bound to be the film’s cast. Since launching back in 2022, Elden Ring has evolved beyond the original game. FromSoftware’s incredibly successful and grueling fantasy adventure has spawned a celebrated expansion with Shadow of the Erdtree and a multiplayer spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign.

The success of Elden Ring has now brought it into the world of film, too, as A24 is set to produce a live-action adaptation. With Alex Garland confirmed to direct the movie, A24’s Elden Ring project is already off to a promising start. However, when it comes to the cast, picking the right actors for each role is far easier said than done. There has already been plenty of speculation about which actors will take on the role of Elden Ring‘s most notable bosses, and Godrick the Grafted could be one of the most fascinating casting challenges.

Willem Dafoe

When it comes to actors who have staked their claim as some of the most versatile and captivating on-screen presences, Willem Dafoe is definitely at the top of the list. He could nail Godrick’s wonderfully over-the-top line delivery. Even more importantly, though, is that Dafoe has proven that he can excel at bringing creepy characters to life, and Godrick is one of Elden Ring‘s more horrific bosses. It’s easy to imagine Dafoe having a blast playing a multi-armed demigod that also uses a dragon’s head as a limb replacement.

Willem Dafoe has worked on many A24-distributed films, like The Florida Project, The Lighthouse, and The Legend of Ochi.

Peter Capaldi

Best known as the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi could be seen as an underrated option to take on the role of Elden Ring‘s Godrick the Grafted. His sharp features are incredibly reminiscent of Godrick, so it’s not hard to picture him in character as the ruler of Stormveil Castle. Capaldi has over four decades of work to boast, and it would be great to see him front and center as Godrick in as big of a movie as Elden Ring.

Bill Nighy

Over the years, Bill Nighy has proven himself as a captivating performer, especially when it comes to villain roles. One of his most celebrated roles was as Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. To this day, Nighy’s role as Davy Jones is a standout portrayal of a villain, and it would be thrilling to see his talent take on another dark character with Godrick. Building Elden Ring‘s cast requires a special level of talent from its actors, and Nighy has proven through the years that he has what it takes.

As of now, A24 has yet to confirm a release window for the Elden Ring movie.

Cillian Murphy

His appearance may be a little too young to play Godrick, but with makeup and slight prosthetics, Cillian Murphy could be a great actor to play the demigod. Like Capaldi, Murphy’s sharp facial features and piercing eyes make him a compelling potential choice for a role like Godrick. Also, he and director Alex Garland already have some shared history. The two worked together on both 28 Days Later and Sunshine, so that connection could be a great gateway for Cillian Murphy to make his way into the Elden Ring movie.

As the year continues, more information about A24’s Elden Ring movie is bound to pop up. So far, there are already rumors that Kit Connor could potentially be taking on the lead role in the film, but an official announcement has yet to be made. Until then, it’s exciting to imagine which actors could be chosen to help bring Elden Ring to life in a new form.
