How to Get Opafire Gems in Dune: Awakening

Opafire Gems are one of the rarer kinds of materials found in Dune: Awakening. Unlike the majority of things players can find throughout Hagga Basin, these aren’t used for crafting, nor are they worth much when sold to traders either. Even so, they have their uses, and players may want to collect as many of these as they can.

The endgame component of Dune: Awakening has many activities for both PvP and PvE players, and if you’re a part of the latter, then finding Opafire Gems can be a good way for you to help out with the war effort. Here’s how to find some of these treasures.

Players can find Opafire Gems in buried treasure chests, which can be randomly found on areas with open sand. Regions with large swathes of sand between solid land have a decent chance of having buried treasure chests sprinkled all over them, and in order to find them, players will need to use Scanners.

The regular Handheld Resource Scanner can detect buried treasure, but without the help of another player’s vehicle, the areas they can go treasure hunting on will be limited to those that are relatively safe (i.e. close to land). Sandworms may attack players if they make too much noise on open sand, which is why using a vehicle with a scanner may be the better option.

Vehicle Scanners

Dune: Awakening Ornithopter Scan

Scanners attached to Sandbikes and Ornithopters will give players a much faster and safer way of finding buried treasure. They can be built in Vehicle Fabricators (or the regular fabricator for Sandbikes), and once you attach one to your vehicle of choice, you can simply go around the map and spam the Scan button.

Every time you scan, markers will appear over resources, environmental hazards (including drumsand and quicksand), and other interactable objects within the range of your Scanner. If a lone marker appears on open sand, then there’s a good chance that treasure is buried over it.

Don’t hover too close to open sand while flying an Ornithopter. You can still alert sandworms despite being up in the air.

Once you find some treasure out in the sands, use a Static Compactor to reveal it. A loot box will appear over the sand, and you’ll be able to get whatever’s inside. There should be some Opafire Gems inside along with other goodies like vehicle components, Spice, and more.

What are Opafire Gems Used For?

Dune: Awakening Landsraad menu

Opafire Gems can donated to the different Houses through the Landsraad menu. For those who don’t know, the Landsraad basically serves as an endgame questing system for Guilds — Houses may request Opafire Gems as part of their quest, and if you contribute enough, you can claim a variety of rewards.
