Now, the next freebie will give fans an expansive getaway that, at the bare mimimu, will last a little under eight hours.

If players want something that encourages them to escape the real world and immerse themselves in an entirely new location, then they might want to dive into June 26’s Sable, leaving their other titles waiting for yet another day. After all, the upcoming free game is highly recommended by Epic Games Store users and critics, with a 76 on Metacritic for the PC version. Sable will allow players to see what it has to offer at their own pace, ranging from the eight hours previously mentioned to a whopping 21 hours and 30 minutes for those who want to leave no stone unturned.

There’s tons to discover in the game’s sandy landscape, like the bones of long-dead creatures, settlements filled with people to meet, and the mysteries of the past. Sable is the type of game that, once it starts, throws players into the world and doesn’t give them any set direction on where to go next. The entire world is theirs to explore whenever they want and in any order they desire, ensuring Sable is a cozy game for all kinds of skill levels.
The game gets its name from the main character, with her clan having a coming-of-age pilgrimage where Sable has to find a mask befitting her age before she can return home. There are multiple masks to find across the vast world, with gamers eventually needing to settle on which one fits Sable before leaving the unique landscape behind them. This is what makes the game so flexible in terms of how long it takes to beat. Players can find their favorite mask fairly early and then leave the world with said mask equipped, or spend just under a day seeing absolutely everything before they move on.
All the story elements in Sable are left up to interpretation, given to players through word of mouth and environmental context clues seen throughout the journey. This means that developer Shedworks’ adventure will mean something different to each person who takes their time to dive into the experience, which makes it a game worth immersing oneself in this summer. Sable isn’t a stranger to thi free games promotion, either, as it was offered as a mystery game on the Epic Games Store back in 2022 on December 18. The last time Sable was given away for no charge, though, fans only had a day to claim it. Now, they have an entire week to decide if they want to add it to their libraries. Since it took about three years for it to return to the free games page, players might want to take advantage before they have to wait for the opportunity to come around again, as there’s no telling when – or if – it will be an EGS freebie again.
