Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw Boss Guide (Adel)

Gaping Jaw is the first Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign to receive the Everdark Sovereign version of the Expedition. This expedition is exactly the same as any other expedition in the game, except for the fact that the boss fight with Adel, Baron of Night is quite different. On top of this, the boss is now much more challenging and has a few attacks that can take out the entire team in a few seconds if they do not understand how to react to the attack.

Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw Weaknesses

Similar to the normal expedition with Adel, Baron of Night, you must make use of Poison, Frost, Sleep, or Rot, as normal elemental damage is either neutral or the boss is resistant to it. One of the most important changes in the Everdark Sovereign version of the boss is that Poison no longer makes the boss vomit out the toxins it has digested, giving you extra time to get multiple hits in.

Poison will now only deal tick damage, but it can proc quickly because of the boss’s low resistance to it. Even so, this makes it so that you should prioritize getting Frost over Poison, because not only does it do a chunk of damage, but it also lowers Adel’s damage absorption by 20%.

If you are communicating with a party, you can check out all the locations with Poison, Frost, Sleep, and Rot. This allows you to have multiple weapons that can inflict different status effects on the boss, lowering its health in a number of ways.

Luckily, some of these, especially the Frost weapons, are easy to obtain, and you can even use a Relic like the Night of the Wise to have weapons start with Poison damage.

You must also utilize the Shifting Earth Events, especially the Mountaintops if you have a Frost weapon, or the Rotted Weapons to acquire a Rot weapon.

For those looking to really challenge themselves, here are the hardest bosses in Elden Ring Nightreign to take on in a solo setting.

How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw

Counters, Team Comps, & Best Strategies For Gaping Jaw (Everdark Sovereign)

The boss fight with Adel, Baron of Night, is a tough one, especially if it’s your first few attempts and you do not understand how some of the new attacks work. Adel has two phases in the Everdark Sovereign version and tries its best to give a proper spectacle during the final phase of the fight.

Phase Two Strategy

How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign 2

The fight starts off with Adel already in its second phase from the normal version of the fight, and it will fly up into the sky before descending and slamming the ground, causing multiple lightning bursts. The boss has a habit of trying to grab the same player twice, so when you hear the first audio cue for the grab and manage to dodge it, be ready for the next one that will come momentarily. For the lightning burrow slams the boss performs throughout the fight, it is best to dodge the slam if you are in the radius and jump up to avoid the lightning damage from the explosion.

The first phase of this fight is still manageable, and you must focus on bringing down its health without using too many flasks. Make use of Frostbite and Poison to whittle its health down, and if you can Stance-Break the boss, be sure to dash in to get the Critical Hit.

Phase Three Strategy

How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign 3

The fight takes a drastic turn when the boss loses around 50% of its health and starts to power up and fly rapidly across the arena, making it extremely hard to follow its movement. Your best bet here is to run to the side of the boss arena and prepare for the boss to form the Cyclone, which is a key aspect of this phase. Everything outside the Cyclone will take lightning damage, and the entrance of the Cyclone has fast-moving winds mixed with lightning that can shred your health bar. There is only one way to get inside the Cyclone, and that is to make use of the numerous Spiritsprings around the Cyclone.

As players approach the Spiritsprings, they should take a few seconds to heal themselves and apply buffs before launching themselves upward and into the mouth of the Cyclone, where Adel is waiting eagerly. The boss will now be more aggressive, trying to chomp you with its lightning bite attacks. Adel will also start doing more slam attacks, making the limited area explode with lightning damage.

In some cases, the boss might go underground and burst out, dealing damage to anyone above where it emerges. Make sure you are moving around the arena to avoid being targeted by the boss for this attack. If one of your teammates dies outside the Cyclone, you must not go out to revive them and should prioritize dealing with the boss. This is because exiting the Cyclone is not an option, and waiting for the teammates to crawl back into the Cyclone is the only viable choice.

Best Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw Team Comps

Best Team Composition For Fulghor In Elden Ring Nightreign

The best team comp for the Gaping Jaw is Ironeye, Wylder, and Raider. This team composition brings everything to the table. You have the required damage to cut down the boss’s health bar, and more importantly, you have enough stagger to Stance-Break the boss multiple times.

All these Nightfarers have ultimates that can interrupt normal attacks from Adel and should be used in tough spots while also trying to damage the boss. Because of Adel’s third phase, players must have mobility, which only the Raider lacks, so players can switch him out for an additional Ironeye. If you still want to bring along Raider, then be sure to have a weapon with the Endure skill to use when the boss starts the Lightning Discharge attack.

You can opt for different Nightfarers, but given the boss’s weaknesses, these characters shine more, especially if you can bring along a Poison and Frost weapon with you.
