Welcome Tour: Super Mario Bros. 4K (1-1)

We get it. Everyone keeps saying that Nintendo Switch Welcome Tour should have just been a pack-in game for Nintendo’s latest console. Still, it’s surprisingly a decent game with some depth (if you’re a diehard Nintendo fan who wants to take quizzes on how the speakers function, or wants to try a tech demo that has you shaking maracas).

There are a lot of neat little mini-games to experiment with the advanced features of the Switch 2, including a recreation of the first level of the original Super Mario Bros. on NES. There are several objectives to complete in the 4K tech demo, so here’s how to achieve them all and get the gold medal in Welcome Tour.

Expectations for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour were low, but somehow the premium tech demo still manages to fall below them.

All Objectives

So, the first time you’ll experience the Super Mario Bros. 4K tech demo is in Area B: Nintendo Switch 2 Console Area. It may seem like just a fun recreation of the first level (and it is), but some people might have trouble 100%ing the tech demo if they’ve never played Super Mario Bros. before.

The five objectives are as follows:

  • Complete the Course
  • Enter a Pipe and complete the course
  • Complete the Course as Fire Mario
  • Fully explore the course and complete it
  • Get a 1-Up Mushroom

The hardest part of the challenge is to find the 1-Up, as it is inside a hidden block somewhere in the level. We’ll show you where it is!

Where’s the 1-Up and Fire Flower in Mario (1-1)?

It might be hard to see the blocks in the image above, but as soon as you pass the fourth pipe (which takes you underground), you will find the invisible block containing the 1-Up (to hit it, stand in the middle of the two bushes to the right of the pipe and then jump).

When you hop over the gap, hit the next question block to find the Fire Flower. The item will not be the Fire Flower if you didn’t pick up a regular mushroom at the start of the level. So, grab the mushroom before the first pipe, grab the Fire Flower, and then you’ll have to get through the rest of the course without getting hit by a Goomba or a Koopa.
