New Plague Tale Game Leaked Ahead of Reveal

A new leak might have just revealed the existence and title of a new A Plague Tale game, just ahead of a potential showcase reveal. The most recent game in the series, A Plague Tale: Requiem, launched in 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The Plague Tale series has been a particularly bright spot in the catalog of its developer, Asobo Studio. Once known for licensed titles and relatively low-profile releases, the studio’s release of A Plague Tale: Innocence wowed players and critics alike with its high-quality visuals and evocative setting, as well as its narrative that depicted one of the best sibling relationships in gaming. Innocence starred a pair of siblings living in France during the time of the infamous Black Death, a continent-spanning plague spread by hordes of rats. The sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, expanded more on the supernatural aspects of Innocence, focusing on Amicia, the elder sister, and her struggle to protect her little brother from his condition as well as the sinister forces that would exploit it.

Thanks to an accidental leak from publisher Focus Entertainment on June 5, it seems that a third Plague Tale game is primed to be revealed. In a pair of now-deleted posts on its official Threads account, Focus Entertainment promoted the unveiling of a game called Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The posts, which were archived by Twitter users like Wario64, included a brief teaser video showing glimpses of the game and revealing its target platforms and release window. Though Focus Entertainment has yet to officially confirm the leak, it’s likely that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will launch sometime in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5, and given the timing, it’s possible that a proper reveal will take place at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. The leaked trailer did not mention the newly released Switch 2 as a target platform, though considering that both existing A Plague Tale games eventually saw release on the Switch 1, a future release on the Switch 2 doesn’t seem out of the question.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Unveiling Accidentally Leaked Ahead of Showcase

The leaked Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy announcement didn’t reveal much about the game’s premise, though a fair amount can be inferred from what was shown in the trailer, as well as from the title. The titling suggests that this story isn’t necessarily a direct continuation of the events from previous games. The ending of A Plague Tale: Requiem was fairly definitive, so the use of “A Plague Tale Legacy” in the title of Resonance suggests that its story acknowledges Requiem‘s events but isn’t directly connected to them.

The second major clue is the game’s featured character. The trailer and key art promoted in the leaked posts featured a character who looks to be Sophia, a seafarer introduced in Requiem. Considering Sophia’s character arc and earlier comments from Asobo Studio that Requiem was the end of A Plague Tale, the use of “Legacy” in the title implies the beginning of a new series or subseries rather than a true sequel.
