Oblivion Remastered fans have shared their thoughts on the one particularly creepy character that some believe has been ruined when compared to the original. According to some Oblivion Remastered fans, there are a few changes that combine to make the character much less daunting to speak to in the remaster.
Overall, Oblivion Remastered is a very faithful remaster of the original game, for better and for worse. Bethesda and Virtuos have kept a lot of the charming jank that made the original such a classic. The studios even kept an iconic Oblivion Remastered dialogue blooper in the game, even if taking it out may have technically made for a more polished final product. However, not all of the changes that were made were popular.

A Reddit thread started by user FeatsOfStrength raised the issue of Vincente Valtieri, an NPC who can be met upon joining Oblivion Remastered‘s Dark Brotherhood. According to the thread, “he now has a weird bloated non-menacing face, in the original his gaunt face made me genuinely afraid of him.” Meanwhile, he no longer sleeps like a vampire in the remaster, removing a little of the character’s uniqueness. Overall, the user felt that if they had no prior knowledge of Valtieri being a vampire, they would have “just presumed he was a typical ugly Bethesda NPC.”

Many players in the thread were in agreement about Valtieri, with others pointing out that a very common Oblivion Remastered glitch, which makes him bald, serves to add back some of that creepiness. It wasn’t every player who believed Valtieri was worse in the remaster, though, with some first-time players pointing out that they definitely knew he was a vampire before being told by the character.
Although Bethesda and Virtuos continue to release new updates for Oblivion Remastered, progress has not exactly been linear. The most recent Oblivion Remastered patch has been causing some issues for players, with some reporting that their save file is no longer loading correctly as a result. Hopefully the studios are able to iron out these kinds of issues as post-launch support for the game continues.
