Elden Ring Nightreign Fan Reveals Whether Character Height Makes a Difference

An Elden Ring Nightreign fan who was curious about whether playable characters’ varying heights affect their movement and combat abilities has posted their findings, and the results are a bit mixed. While the differing heights of characters in Elden Ring Nightreign don’t make much difference in play style based on that stat alone, there are some subtle advantages that making them just a bit taller or shorter can provide.

The game was released on May 30, 2025, spinning off from FromSoftware’s 2022 smash hit Elden Ring as a roguelike variant of the popular action RPG. Elden Ring Nightreign passed an impressive milestone of 3.5 million players just five days after launch, and it’s been proving itself relatively popular among those players, with a 79 percent approval rating among reviewers on Steam.

Nightrein doesn’t have to be over when all the Nightlords are defeated; there’s still plenty left for players to do.

YouTuber Zullie the Witch has noted that many of Elden Ring Nightreign‘s playable characters look off from their Elden Ring counterparts based on their default heights because they are all built around the same base character model and scaled by a factor ranging between .85 for Revenant and 1.15 for Guardian. With this knowledge in mind, the player enacted an experiment with the in-game size modifier tools to determine whether a character’s height makes any sort of notable difference in gameplay, finding that the differences are mostly cosmetic. In fact, in terms of movement speed and traversal mechanics like jumping and climbing, having a taller or shorter character seems to have no effect at all on gameplay.

Elden Ring Nightreign Fan Shares Character Height Study Findings

The one aspect of the game that is affected by character height is combat, but based on this player’s research, the differences are pretty minimal, though there are pros and cons to playing as a larger or smaller character. The obvious advantage of being smaller in most games is that it reduces a character’s hitbox, making it easier for them to avoid incoming attacks. That holds true with this player’s Elden Ring Nightreign findings, though they speculated that the possibility of dodging enemy attacks based on a smaller size would be a pretty rare occurrence. The trade-off of being small is that melee attacks have a shorter reach, but since the weapons in Elden Ring Nightreign don’t scale to the player’s size, this reach advantage is only affected by the arm length of the attacking character.

That’s not the only recent secret Zullie the Witch has revealed about the game. A recent datamining effort in Elden Ring Nightreign showed that stat growth drops off significantly as players reach higher levels in each run, with characters often gaining only a single point at levels 13 through 15.
