Time Stranger Confirms Disappointing Detail

Summary

  • Digimon Story: Time Stranger will run at 30 FPS on consoles, a disappointment for fans hoping for a smoother experience.
  • The game features around 450 Digimon, rideable mounts, and locations like Shinjuku, Akihabara, and the Digital World.
  • The special collector’s edition includes a figurine, artbook, and Digimon cards.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger will only run at 30 frames per second on consoles, much to the disappointment of fans hoping for a smoother gaming experience. First revealed at the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play livestream, Digimon Story: Time Stranger will have gamers once again partnering with Digital Monsters to protect the world from destruction at the hands of a mysterious threat across time and space. During the recent June 4 State of Play, the game would finally confirm its October 3 release date and provide fans with another look at the many Digimon they will be able to recruit as part of the ADAMAS organization.

Even before its showing earlier this month, Digimon Story: Time Stranger has been slowly unveiling its roster of roughly 450 Digimon, many of which fans of the various Digimon anime and games will readily recognize. Other new features being introduced are rideable Digimon mounts and the ability to travel between the Japanese cities of Shinjuku and Akihabara and the Digital World of Iliad that was previously seen in the now-defunct Digimon Heroes mobile game.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is the latest in a long line of Digimon RPGs, and it wouldn’t be where it is today without them laying its foundation.

While many are excited to play Digimon Story: Time Stranger, a new development might leave them feeling disappointed. According to the newly updated Japanese Digimon Story: Time Stranger website (as translated by RPG Site), the game will only run at a framerate of 30 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This limitation is also in place on the PlayStation 5 Pro, but not for the PC version being released on Steam, which will support 60 FPS. Additionally, Digimon Story: Time Stranger will have no HDR support on any platform.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Only Runs at 30 FPS on Consoles

This might come as a disappointment for some fans, especially since Digimon Story: Time Stranger looks like it would be visually impressive to see in 60 FPS. However, it should be pointed out that just the previous entries in the series Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a turn-based RPG that often has players simply selecting attacks in menus and navigating simplified environments. As such, the developers might not have deemed it necessary for Digimon Story: Time Stranger to run at 60 FPS on consoles.

Last week, Digimon Story: Time Stranger unveiled its special collector’s edition, which includes a roughly 15 cm Jupitermon: Wrath Mode Figurine, an exclusive artbook, and a set of exclusive Digimon Card Game trading cards. However, this version will still only run at 30 FPS when Digimon Story: Time Stranger launches on consoles this October.
