Creepy New Sci-Fi Survival Horror Game End of Abyss Revealed at Summer Game Fest

Founded by veteran developers who worked on Little Nightmares, Little Nightmares 2, and LittleBigPlanet PS VITA, Section 9 Interactive is a small studio that has teamed up with Epic Games to reveal a first look at the upcoming sci-fi survival horror game End of Abyss. Presented during the main showcase of Summer Game Fest 2025, End of Abyss draws inspiration from the darker tales of science fiction with a disturbingly harrowing twist.

Summer Game Fest included a number of surprising announcements for horror fans, with the announcement of the next Resident Evil game and early looks at a number of indie entries. One new offering in particular has already caught the eye of players, with many taking an interest in its unique perspective blended with a familiar flavor of body horror.

New Horror Game is Like a First-Person Anime Silent Hill

A new horror game is announced that looks like a mash-up between anime stylization, Silent Hill, and first-person perspective.

The official reveal trailer for End of Abyss introduces players to the young combat technician Cel, who must uncover the truth behind a derelict facility in the depths of a mysterious underground compound. Players will lead Cel on an atmospheric adventure while confronting monstrous creatures and investigating a broken and abandoned world. While Cel will make a number of discoveries along the way, players will need to remember that nothing they encounter is human, and they will need to push themselves to the limit to adapt and stay alive in the face of twisted horrors. Similar to the Little Nightmares game series, End of Abyss emphasizes exploration, though it introduces a new system for upgradable gear that Cel will need to battle against enemies in tense combat. End of Abyss is set to release for PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.

Audiences have already begun drawing early comparisons between End of Abyss and games like Playdead’s Inside, with many happy to see a fresh survival horror video game with an arguably unexpected top-down FPS format.
