The wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong might be over soon, as rumors are ramping up, suggesting a potential appearance at Summer Game Fest. Over the years, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most anticipated games around, but its status of being seemingly caught in development hell has left a lot of fans wondering if the game will ever even see the light of day.
Thankfully, Silksong has received a small, but substantial update that could signal an upcoming launch. Silksong‘s Steam page recently underwent several changes, and with Summer Game Fest looming overhead, the timing feels a little bit too good to be a coincidence. If developer Team Cherry is indeed present at the event, a release date could be revealed, and if Silksong locks in a 2025 or 2026 window, then the indie title may find itself benefiting from FromSoftware’s recent single-player void.

With Hollow Knight: Silksong making its way to the Switch 2, perhaps it should consider following Cyberpunk 2077’s lead with one console feature.
FromSoftware’s Venture Into Multiplayer Waters Might Be an Unexpected Help Hand to Hollow Knight: Silksong
Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods
- Elden Ring Nightreign launched on May 30.
- The Duskbloods is slated for a 2026 release.
FromSoftware leaning into the multiplayer space is interesting, but it has also left a lot of longtime fans longing for a fresh single-player game from the developer. Since its launch back in 2022, Elden Ring has continued to entertain old and new players, but it also stings knowing that another single-player title isn’t arriving anytime soon, at least for now. This year and next, it seems as though FromSoftware is all about multiplayer projects. It’s important to mention that it’s been confirmed that FromSoftware isn’t leaving single-player games behind, but at this rate, the next one may not arrive until 2027, leaving a hole in its solo roster. However, all hope is not lost if Silksong takes the stage soon.
Elden Ring Nightreign can be played solo, but it was designed specifically as a co-op experience.
Siksong’s Soulslike Influence Could Draw in More Players
Of course, the Hollow Knight series is first and foremost a Metroidvania, but there is an underlying Soulslike influence. The first Hollow Knight lives on as a grueling experience that is very akin to FromSoftware’s challenging games, and Silksong is bound to follow suit. While Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods bring forth multiplayer offerings, a lot of gamers will be craving a challenging single-player option, and Silksong will likely be one of the best choices to help scratch that itch.
There has been an incredible amount of speculation surrounding Silksong, and if recent theories are proven true soon, it sets Team Cherry’s sequel up to be one of the biggest releases of this year or next. The expectations are astronomical, but thanks to the opening left by FromSoftware’s lack of new single-player games, Silksong may see a new influx of players who aren’t just longtime Hollow Knight fans.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally announced back in 2019 and was originally intended to be a DLC.
Whether It’s This Year or Next, Silksong Will Shake Up the Industry
2025 has already been packed with huge game releases. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Split Fiction, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Doom: The Dark Ages, and upcoming titles like Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei already present a treasure trove of offerings. If Silksong gets thrown into the mix, it will be massive. On the flip side, if Silksong launches next year, then it has a juggernaut like GTA 6 to compete with.
It remains to be seen when Silksong will be ready for launch, but recent signs have been pointing toward potential surprises at Summer Game Fest. The event is only a short time away from airing, so it will be fascinating to see if Silksong finally brings gamers the news they have been waiting for.
