What to Expect From Deltarune Chapter 5

Massive spoilers for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 below.

Deltarune has made a comeback at one of the best times possible. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Undertale, and Deltarune is now a full-fledged experience available for purchase in time for the celebration. It might be the best present fans can ask for as Deltarune serves as Undertale‘s parallel story, allowing players to meet up and interact with famous characters like Asgore, Sans, and most unexpectedly, Gerson.

Chapters 3 and 4 had their fair share of reveals and plot twists that set a lot of expectations for the next three chapters. The heroes of the prophecy have had a brutal realization that their story isn’t always going to be about playing cards and acid-drinking queens. With a future tragedy looming over Kris, Ralsei, and Susie’s heads, Chapter 4 ends with one of the most exciting reveals of all: Deltarune Chapter 5 is set to release in 2026. Now that the halfway point has been reached, though, foreshadowing seems to put Chapter 5 in an interesting position.

Deltarune Chapter 5 Will Most Likely Reignite an Old Conflict

How Deltarune Chapter 4 Let Fans in On Some Chapter 5 Secrets

In the Dark Sanctuary’s study, players meet the character of “Old Man” who is described to be a Darkner made in the image of the late Gerson. If fans take a detour through the Sanctuary, Susie gets to fight the Old Man as a secret boss. During the fight between Susie and Old Man Gerson, he talks to her about the stories Lightner Gerson wrote based on the Delta Rune prophecy.

While these exchanges certainly take some liberties – Gerson’s stories were only based on the prophecy after all – some fans likely had to look twice when Gerson began talking about the fifth book. According to his description, Chapter 5 will feature a garden that’s burned down due to someone’s jealousy. After the ending of Chapter 4, it’s clear that the jealous culprit is none other than Asgore, as his ex-wife Toriel spent the night dancing with Sans in a way that made her more-than-friendly feelings for the skeleton rather obvious.

Asgore has spent most of his time in this game trying to woo the goat mom he still loves, but a secret in Deltarune Chapter 4 reveals he’s focused on showing Toriel “what really happened” about an incident surrounding them. It also reveals that the fallen father is in possession of a Black Shard, an item that the player only gets by defeating the Roaring Knight.

Asgore also appears in the prophecy in the Dark Sanctuary. One piece depicts him as “the flower man, trapped in asylum.” In the game’s code, this illustration is stated to be depicting a boss. It might be a red herring, but it helps solidify Asgore’s importance to Chapter 5.

Deltarune’s Fifth Chapter Might be Just as Important as Chapter 4

Due to how Deltarune chapters play out over the course of a day, Chapter 5 will also feature an event players have been hearing about since Chapter 2. This is the Festival, the day when the entire town “becomes a carnival,” according to Susie. There’s a chance that the Festival might lead to a break in Deltarune‘s usual structure, just like how Chapter 4 technically featured three dark worlds and a lengthy light world segment.

Gerson’s foreshadowing only goes as far as to mention Chapter 5’s book adaptation as well, and he only mentions there being one more story before the story “swallows” the author whole. There’s a chance that Chapter 6 marks the end of the prophecy as fans know it, with Chapter 7 marking their chance to change it. There are only so many chapters left in Deltarune now, which means it won’t be much longer until fans learn what the final tragedy is and find out if they can truly prevent it.

Deltarune is an incredibly hard game to predict. Chapters 3 and 4 debunked many Deltarune fan theories worth years of speculation. While players may have a bigger idea as to what’s going on, Deltarune is still keeping a number of tricks up its sleeve, and Toby Fox still insists the game only has one ending. As mentioned before, what’s known about Chapter 5 so far could be a red herring, but only by so much. It sounds like the next dark world players will visit will be the “field of pink and gold,” one way or another, and fans can expect all of Deltarune‘s trademark secrets and surprises along the way.
