Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s new Mega Evolutions continue to be the game’s biggest question mark, with no definitive confirmation of these new forms outside alleged leaks. The upcoming July 22 Pokemon Presents could be the perfect chance for Pokemon Legends: Z-A to spill the beans on any new Mega Evolutions joining the roster, but until they are officially confirmed, fans can only speculate about what these Mega may look like. That being said, the Mega Evolutions that have been leaked paint an interesting picture if true, and leave room for several mons to get brand-new typings along with their new forms.
A common hallmark of Mega Evolution in the Pokemon franchise beyond a change in stat distribution is a change in the critter’s type. While most cases of a Mega Evolution changing types only involve the addition, removal, or change of a secondary type, this rework can have a huge impact on how effective that Pokemon is when it Mega Evolves, potentially removing previous weaknesses. Some of the most notable instances of this change can be seen in mons like Mega Charizard X swapping the Flying type for the Dragon type, Mega Lopunny gaining the Fighting type in addition to its original Normal type, and Mega Aggron losing the Rock type to become a pure Steel type.

Leaked Mega Evolutions that Could Get a New Typing in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
The Starter Trio – Meganium, Emboar, and Feraligatr
- Meganium – Grass/Fairy
- Emboar – Fire/Steel
- Feraligatr – Water/Fighting
The most obvious mons to get new Mega Evolution types are the starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. While Emboar is already a Fire/Fighting type, both Meganium and Feraligatr are mono Grass and Water types, respectively, meaning they could easily gain a secondary type when Mega Evolved. There’s a strong case to be made for Mega Meganium gaining Fairy as its secondary type, given that its floral design is similar to other Fairy types like Comfey and Florges.
To keep with the traditional Pokemon starter type triangle, Emboar and Feraligatr would need to include Steel and Fighting in their typing, since Fairy is super effective against Fighting, which is super effective against Steel, which is super effective against Fairy. Since Emboar is already a Fire/Fighting type, it could feasibly remain the same typing while Feraligatr becomes a Water/Steel type. Conversely, Emboar could become a Fire/Steel type and Feraligatr could become a Water/Fighting type.
Clefable, Eelektross, and Falinks Are Begging for Secondary Types
- Clefable – Fairy/Psychic
- Eelektross – Electric/Flying
- Falinks – Fighting/Steel
Aside from Meganium and Feraligatr, only three of the other leaked Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A are monotypes. Clefable’s Fairy type could easily be complemented by the Psychic type since a large portion of its moveset consists of Psychic-type moves. With Pokemon Abilites gone in Legends: Z-A, Eelektross could maintain its Ground-type immunity even without Levitate if it gained the Flying type when Mega Evolved. The Steel type could be a perfect secondary type for Falinks, given the mon’s Roman Legionaire inspiration and the shields they used when forming the phalanx, the mon’s namesake.
Pyroar and Drampa’s Normal Typings Could Become More Interesting
- Pyroar – Fire/Dark
- Drampa – Dragon/Fire
Pyroar and Drampa may already be dual-type mons—both being part Normal type—but they could benefit from their Normal typing being changed to something more interesting for their Mega Evolutions. Pyroar could become a Fire/Dark type as a twist on male Pyroar’s lazy nature, turning into a hunter that plays dirty when Mega Evolved. Drampa has a fearsome side that isn’t obvious by its typically gentle demeanor; it’s said to fiercely defend childen, going so far as to burn down the houses of bullies who hurt those it cares about. As such, the overwhelming power of Mega Evolution could allow Drampa to become a Dragon/Fire type to showcase its terrifying fiery potential.
