Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will have players juggling all sorts of items in a delivery, from the required quest-related ones to even just another pair of boots in case your current ones give out. You’ll want to make sure you have enough supplies to complete a delivery, along with picking up some optional stuff along the way to get more rewards when finishing the quest.
Sam’s carry capacity may sound like a lot at the beginning of the game, but you’ll quickly run into its limits without trying. Luckily, there are a few ways to increase your carry capacity; here’s how to do so.

How to Increase Carry Weight in Death Stranding 2
Players are given a few options for increasing their carry weight, with the first two starting right at the start of the game. You’ll initially want to focus on leveling up Sam’s Carry Capacity, which is found in Sam’s Stats. To level up his carry capacity, simply carry a heavy load over long distances to fill the Carry Capacity bar. There are five levels for Carry Capacity, with each one letting Sam carry an additional 10 Kg.
The easiest way to level this stat up is by keeping Sam’s carry capacity in the yellow and go about your usual business. While it’s easy to move around with a light load, this will only slow down your progress on leveling up this stat.
If you need to lower your carry capacity to fight enemies or BTs, just take your backpack off.
This first method will happen naturally as you play the game, though the second will need a bit of a more focused approach. Collecting Chiral Crystals and holding them will give you an extra 1 Kg for every 1,000 cg of Chiral Crystals you actively carry. Chiral Crystals weigh nothing and don’t take up backpack slots, so stock up on them as much as possible. There are a few simple ways of getting Chiral Crystals:
- Found randomly as golden hands throughout the world.
- Killing BTs to make golden hands.
- Shower in your room.
The only concern with Chiral Crystals is that they are also a currency used to fabricate new things using the fabricator, so you’ll need to decide what’s more important. You can also increase your carry capacity by using a Boost Skeleton, though these are obtained a bit further into the game unless you got the Deluxe Edition of the game. Using a Boost Skeleton also means you can’t equip another type of Skeleton, making the first two methods ideal to focus on long-term for a better investment throughout the game.

How Should You Use Chiral Crystals in Death Stranding 2?
There are an incredible number of Chiral Crystals to collect in the game, and they are in no way a scarce resource. That being said, it will usually be best to hold them in your inventory and only fabricate things when you know you need them. There are tons of things to find throughout the world while exploring, and many tools are given whenever you start a delivery, so fabricating all your own stuff can easily leave you with a surplus of tools.
Playing online can also greatly help you save Chiral Crystals, as using other players’ bridges, ladders, and other traversal tools can help you save your own Chiral Crystals to increase your carry weight.
