While the lower parts of the mountain in PEAK are mostly manageable without any assistance, you’ll need to use special tools to get through the harder biomes the game has to offer. PEAK players can find Rope Spools, Rope Cannons, and Pitons to help them climb up the mountain, but how exactly are these tools used?
Just like most things in PEAK, these tools are best used with a group of friends. While you can use things like the Rope Cannon on your own as a solo climber, you’ll get much more out of these tools if you use them to help your friends. They provide a great way of reserving stamina or helping any injured climbers who may not have enough energy to keep up with everyone else. Rope Spools, Rope Cannons, and Pitons are valuable additions to your PEAK arsenal once you learn how to use them.

How to Use Rope Spools, Rope Cannons, and Pitons in PEAK
All three of these tools can be found in luggage scattered across the island after the plane crash, and they’re all helpful in their own ways. Rope Spools are the most common of this trio, and they’re mainly used to help other climbers who don’t have enough stamina to keep up with you.
How to Use Rope Spools
To use a Rope Spool in PEAK, unravel the rope using your mouse’s scroll wheel. Once you’ve reached the desired length, face any climbable surface and hold left-click to tie a knot. This will anchor one end of the rope to that spot and drop the rest down for other people to use.
Climbing a rope consumes considerably less stamina, so they’re helpful if someone has a full backpack and some poison buildup preventing them from climbing up with everyone else.
How to Use Rope Cannons
Rope Cannons work similarly to Rope Spools, but you can use them from down below to reach a higher area. Just aim at a climbable surface within the Rope Cannon’s range, and you can launch a rope to that exact spot. It’s basically a Rope Spool that can be deployed without having to climb to a high-enough spot first.
How to Use Pitons
For extended climbs, Pitons are much more helpful. With a Piton equipped, you can hold left-click on any climbable surface to create a resting point where you can recover your stamina. Multiple players can use the same Pitons, but they’ll break after a few uses.
All three of these items should become key parts of your loadout whenever you start a new climb in PEAK. These items will help you reach higher parts of the mountain and earn more badges in the process. As such, it’s recommended to check the Shore area for luggage to see how many Rope Spools, Rope Cannons, and Pitons you can collect before heading upward.
