Minecraft-Inspired Game Hytale Has Been Canceled

Fans of the sandbox genre will be unhappy to find out that Hytale, a planned game that was inspired by Minecraft, has officially been canceled. Hytale was a sandbox title being developed by Hypixel Studios, the team of developers behind a popular Minecraft server known as Hypixel. Originally funded by Riot Games, Hypixel Studios has been working on Hytale for several years, making this announcement even more devastating for anyone who has been following the project since its inception.

Much like Minecraft, Hytale was originally designed to be a procedurally generated sandbox game with elements of role-playing. Fans of Minecraft have been especially excited, as Hytale had deep ties to both the gameplay elements they were familiar with and the Mojang franchise. In addition to having a sandbox mode, the development team also planned for several mini-games to set the title apart from other competitors. The announcement trailer for the highly anticipated game, now 6 years old, had over 60 million views as of this most recent news.

Riot Games Acquires Hytale Developer Hypixel Studios

Riot Games announces that it has acquired Hypixel Studios, the developer of the highly anticipated upcoming sandbox RPG Hytale.

The official announcement was made on June 23 by Hypixel Studios CEO and co-founder Noxy. He made the announcement via Twitter, expressing great disappointment and frustration. According to Noxy, ambitions for the game grew more complex as the vision for Hytale evolved over time, and the team just didn’t have the time or resources necessary to finish the title. The developer also made sure to thank Riot Games, noting that the production studio has been very supportive throughout the years.

Hypixel Studios Announces Cancellation of Hytale

Hypixel Studios is the latest small developer to announce the cancellation of a game, following an unfortunate trend in the industry. Even major developers are facing this issue, with one of the most recent examples coming in the form of EA canceling the Black Panther game. Whether a game is canceled for creative or economic reasons, it’s never good news for fans who have been anticipating the new title.

The silver lining to this news is that the developers of Hypixel Studios will be moving on to other projects in the near future. Minecraft fans will also be happy to hear that this will not impact the Hypixel servers. Even if Hytale has been canceled, players can still experience the server that made the dream possible. Given that Minecraft is still getting new updates from Mojang Studios, it’s safe to say that at least the inspiration for Hytale will be around for quite some time.
