CrossWorlds Officially Reveals Its Next Crossover

The upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has officially revealed the next crossover characters coming to the highly-anticipated racing game, diving into the sea with SpongeBob SquarePants and friends. Sega’s answer to Nintendo’s successful Mario Kart World has already seen plenty of reveals to get fans excited ahead of the game’s launch in September. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will introduce several new features and styles of racing to the franchise, including the aquatic “Boat Mode” races and “Flight Mode” taking players to the sky. However, one of the most exciting elements of the game has come from its litany of crossovers.

Sega’s newest racing game has teased several crossovers coming as part of CrossWorlds, both with other Sega franchises and from beyond the developer. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ Summer Games Fest trailer showed off a whopping six different characters coming from other franchises, including surprise picks like Hatsune Miku and Like a Dragon‘s Ichiban Kasuga. The game even features a crossover with Minecraft in its initial lineup, with players able to race with Steve, Alex, and the iconic Creeper enemy. Now, Sega is showing off another exciting crossover coming to the game.

Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Aren’t Rivals, But Two Sides of the Same Coin

Even though Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are releasing close together, the two are better standing side by side than as rivals.

As reported by VGC, a new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds officially unveiled the next crossover coming to the game. The new trailer revealed a pair of Nickelodeon icons coming as playable characters, showing both SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick alongside a “Krabby Patty”-themed vehicle. The trailer also gave a preview of a SpongeBob-themed track, with players racing past SpongeBob’s house and even crashing through the Krusty Krab. CrossWorlds also briefly teased future Nickelodeon crossover content from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar the Last Airbender.

Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Adding Nickelodeon Crossover Content

The SpongeBob reveal and Nickelodeon teaser come as Sega has hinted at the game boasting a sizable roster following its launch. Leaks from earlier this year hinted at a respectable 23-character lineup for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, though that roster notably did not include any of the crossover characters. The game is also expected to boast 24 tracks for players to race on within Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, using “Travel Rings” to visit re-designed “CrossWorlds” tracks as well. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently scheduled to launch on September 25.

Alongside Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ litany of playable characters, Sega looks to be adding several special touches to the game. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will include over 500 different dialogue options players can experience before the start of a race, with different characters butting heads or taunting one another. Sega has also repeatedly taunted Nintendo over Mario Kart World, specifically referencing Sonic: CrossWorlds‘ cross-play as a major leg up over the Nintendo racer. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds looks to take the iconic racing franchise in a bold new direction later this year.
