Day One Xbox Game Pass Game is a Big Hit

Developer Sloclap has recently revealed that Rematch, which has been recently added as a day one release to Xbox Game Pass, reached over a million unique players in less than 24 hours. Rematch is the latest day one Xbox Game Pass title to quickly become a huge hit, following successes such as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

In Rematch, players control a single player in a match, instead of the whole team like in popular soccer games such as EA Sports FC, and can pick positions such as attacker, defender, and goalkeeper. The game currently only has an online competitive mode, which comes in four varieties: 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, and a ranked 5v5 mode.

Xbox Game Pass’ Potential Price Increase May Still Be the Greener Side of the Grass

It’s been rumored that Xbox Game Pass subscribers could be in for another price hike soon, but Game Pass might still be the best option for gamers.

Now, the developers of Rematch have announced that the game reached over a million players in less than a day,. While being part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service has certainly helped Rematch to become more popular, it’s also fair to say that the game has been fairly trendy outside of it, too. For example, Rematch recently reached a major player count milestone on Steam, with over 92,000 simultaneous gamers on the platform.

Rematch Reaches Over a Million Players in Less Than 24 Hours

Critically, Rematch has been receiving mixed to positive reviews, though, and the title currently holds an average critic score of 74 on OpenCritic. While most critics have praised Rematch’s mechanics and its unique art style, the game has been criticized due to having performance issues and essentially no solo mode at launch.

It remains to be seen how Rematch will improve over time, but the title likely has a bright future. The developer has recently explained that Rematch will gain crossplay as soon as possible, as the devs did what they could to include it at launch, but were unable to add the feature in time due to unforeseen technical issues. Other changes coming up soon include fixing lag and performance issues, as well as some major bugs. Unfortunately, there’s no official timeline for these updates, so gamers will have to wait for a while before they can finally play the best version of the popular soccer game. In 2026, Sloclap intends to implement an offline mode with AI teammates to Rematch, too, which will certainly be good news for gamers who love soccer games but don’t want to compete with other people all the time.
