Warner Bros. Games Announces Restructuring

Warner Bros. Games has announced that it will be restructuring in order to focus on four key franchises that have proven the most popular with players. After several major missteps, Warner Bros. Games is making some big changes to ensure that future releases are more well-received by audiences, as the company is home to some of the world’s most beloved characters and series.

Many fans lost faith in Warner Bros. Games following the catastrophic failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was released in early 2024 and ended service less than a year later. More recently, the free-to-play platform fighting game MultiVersus officially shut down, with the live service model becoming more polarizing and the game itself being criticized for its ample microtransactions. Eager to make big changes, the publisher of these titles has announced a shakeup that will potentially win back fans and ensure that blunders like these aren’t quite as commonplace.

With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League being well and truly shuttered, so too have the doors closed on another promising DC Comics prospect.

In a new report from Variety, Warner Bros. Games will now focus on four key franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones. While big leadership changes are happening at the publisher, no layoffs are planned, with several major names seeing promotions as part of the new initiative. Notably, NetherRealm Studios’ Shaun Himmerick has been named senior vice president, development role to oversee upcoming Mortal Kombat and DC Universe games, while Warner Bros. Games Montreal studio head will manage new Game of Thrones titles and upcoming entries inspired by the Harry Potter universe. “We are very fortunate to have a strong stable of development and technology talent, and Yves, Shaun and Steven are respected leaders with excellent track records in their areas of expertise,” said Global Streaming and Games CEO J.B. Perrette. “I’m looking forward to working closely with them and the team as we work to make the best games possible for our key franchises.”

Warner Bros. Games Will Focus On Four Key Franchises Going Forward

Announced during Summer Game Fest 2025, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an upcoming real-time strategy game coming to PC in 2026. The game will include both single-player and free-for-all PvP at launch, and while some were quickly impressed by the game’s graphical prowess, others have expressed disappointment that the title is part of such a niche genre. Many Game of Thrones titles have hit the market following the unprecedented success of the HBO series, and it remains to be seen how audiences will respond to this new entry.

Warner Bros. Games is also placing heavy emphasis on a follow-up to 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy, which sold over 34 million copies by March 2025, becoming one of the best-selling video games of all time. While a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works, fans of the original game have expressed concern following rumors that the title may feature live service elements. No release window for the sequel has been announced.
