What to Expect From Gears of War: Reloaded

It’s been quite some time since Gears of War hit the green screens of a powered-up Xbox console. Gears 5 launched almost six years ago, and the Splash Damage-developed Gears Tactics released in 2020. Naturally, fans are champing at the bit for a new Gears of War game, and while Gears of War: E-Day is officially on the way, there’s still no concrete idea of when fans will be able to get their hands on it. In the meantime, Xbox is asking them to revisit the first entry in the flagship Xbox franchise once more.

Gears of War: Reloaded is launching on August 26, 2025. It marks the second time the first Gears of War has been remastered, with it building off the framework of 2015’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Gears of War: Reloaded is set to be a definitive experience, but fans and newcomers alike might be wondering what that means exactly.

What Fans and New Players Should Expect From Gears of War: Reloaded

Everything Included in Gears of War: Reloaded

Gears of War: Reloaded is taking the original 2006 Gears of War and all of its post-launch content, and sprucing it all up with even prettier graphics and framerates. Players can expect the following features from Gears of War: Reloaded:

  • Campaign – The original 2006 Gears of War campaign that started it all. This can be played in solo or in 2-player co-op via either online play or split-screen. According to HowLongToBeat, Gears of War‘s campaign should take players around 9–12 hours to complete.
  • Multiplayer – The first Gears of War may not have had Horde, but it did have a thrilling 8-player Versus mode. The entire suite of Gears of War‘s iconic multiplayer maps and modes will be available in Reloaded out of the gate.
  • All DLC – Every multiplayer map, mode, and cosmetic from Gears of War‘s post-launch DLC will be available in Reloaded. Some character cosmetics will still need to be earned through in-game progression.
  • 4K Resolution
  • 120 FPS in multiplayer
  • 60 FPS in campaign
  • VRR
  • HDR
  • Cross-play across all platforms
  • Cross-progression across all platforms – Requires players to sign in to a Microsoft account

It does seem like Gears of War: Reloaded will be the definitive way to play the first game in the long-running franchise, and given all of its technical refinements, it sounds like it’ll be a great first impression for those dipping their toes into Gears of War‘s brutal world for the first time.

Gears of War Is Coming to More Platforms Than Ever

Of course, one of the most exciting aspects of Gears of War: Reloaded is that it’s bringing the franchise to more platforms than ever before. Gears of War: Reloaded will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, Xbox Cloud, and most importantly, PlayStation 5. This marks the latest in an ever-growing line of first-party Xbox games that have hopped the fence over to PlayStation. Now it’s just Halo left to join them.

Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere day-one. Those who already own a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will also receive a free upgrade to Reloaded before release.
