New Xbox Game Pass Game for June 30 Should Be the Tip of the Iceberg

Xbox Game Pass is on a frankly absurd hot streak right now. Arguably, this hot streak began all the way back in September of last year with the day-one launches of Age of Mythology: Retold and Frostpunk 2, which were quickly followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 a month later. This streak continued all the way to the end of the year thanks to games like STALKER 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and that momentum has only continued to pick up throughout the first half of 2025, with Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered all hitting Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Microsoft has just officially unveiled the entirety of Xbox Game Pass’ June 2025 line-up, and it doesn’t look like that hot streak is ending anytime soon. FBC: Firebreak has just hit Game Pass today, and Sloclap’s Rematch is a few days out. But one of the most exciting Xbox Game Pass titles for June is actually a title from 2017, not necessarily because of the game itself (though it’s really solid), but because of what it could represent for its entire franchise.

Call of Duty has experimented with a few campaign remasters over the years, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s reveal should inspire one more.

Call of Duty’s History With Xbox Game Pass So Far

From the moment Microsoft announced its plans to acquire Activision-Blizzard in January 2022, Call of Duty fans were hopeful they’d get to see the franchise come to Xbox Game Pass. It took a little time, but the first domino fell in June 2024, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) came to the subscription service. Though it’s far from the most beloved entry in the franchise’s long history, it was still a huge deal for fans.

In October 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hit Xbox Game Pass, marking the very first Call of Duty to come to the service on day one. Black Ops 6 was met with an incredibly positive reception from critics and fans alike, and it was an undeniable win for Game Pass, with it being the biggest Game Pass debut ever. But even Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 wasn’t enough to satiate fans who knew the full extent of what they could have.

The newly announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass on launch day.

Call of Duty: WW2 Is a Step in the Right Direction

On June 30, 2025, Call of Duty: WW2 is coming to Xbox Game Pass. It might be hard to believe, but Call of Duty: WW2 is almost a decade old now, and it’ll mark the first CoD entry on Game Pass that hasn’t been originally released in the last few years. It might be a bit of an odd place to start, but it finally seems like Xbox Game Pass is taking its first steps towards bringing the rest of the franchise to the table.

Call of Duty Still Has a Long Way to Go on Game Pass

But that journey is a long, winding path that stretches all the way back to the early 2000s. There are 18 mainline Call of Duty games left to come to Xbox Game Pass, and while there are definitely entries that fans would prefer to see right away (the early Modern Warfare and Black Ops titles), it’d be great to see the entire Call of Duty franchise on Game Pass in the coming year or two.
