The New Dawn Waiting Room Playlist

Cronos: The New Dawn is expected to arrive later this year in the fall, further cementing developer Bloober Team as one of the most promising studios in the horror genre at the moment. After the developer’s success last year with the Silent Hill 2 remake, Cronos: The New Dawn teases an exciting change of pace, as it’s a brand-new original IP from the studio.

Although Bloober Team recently confirmed a fall 2025 launch window for Cronos, there has yet to be a full-blown release date announced. However, there is a silver lining. As the wait continues for Cronos: The New Dawn, there are several strong horror titles that could be perfect games to jump into in order to prepare for the scares that Bloober Team’s next game promises.

Games to Play Before Cronos: The New Dawn Launches

Silent Hill 2 Remake

Considering that this was Bloober Team’s most recent game, and one of the biggest titles of last year, the Silent Hill 2 remake naturally deserves a place on this list. As one of the most iconic psychological horror stories in gaming, Silent Hill 2 boasts a dark and eerie story that is further expressed through its oppressive atmosphere. Taking on the role of James Sunderland as he uncovers a mystery revolving around his dead wife brings both scares and heart-wrenching moments to the surface. Cronos: The New Dawn already appears to have its own unique energy, but it’s clear that Silent Hill 2 was incredibly influential to Bloober Team when crafting its brand-new IP.

Bloober Team will continue its work with the Silent Hill franchise as it was recently announced by Konami that Bloober Team will be remaking the first Silent Hill game, as well.

Dead Space

Silent Hill 2 was clearly a source of inspiration for Cronos: The New Dawn, but Dead Space might be even more so. The beloved sci-fi horror series is well-known for its intense body horror that puts grotesque and horrifying monsters on full display. Cronos: The New Dawn‘s terrifying Orphan enemies have obviously taken a lot of inspiration from Dead Space, making it a great option to play through before the game launches.

The Callisto Protocol

A letdown to some and a diamond in the rough to others, The Callisto Protocol was a unique take on survival sci-fi horror, despite its divisiveness. The Callisto Protocol‘s enemy variety may have been lacking, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the game boasts plenty of horrifying encounters. Its combat mechanics take a little bit of time to get used to, but once nailed down, The Callisto Protocol can be a sweat-inducing horror ride.

Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol were both created by Glen Schofield.

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 also leans into the survival horror genre, but one compelling aspect of the game that might be intriguing for those eager for Cronos: The New Dawn is how it plays around with time and alternate realities. One of Cronos: The New Dawn‘s most unique qualities is that, in addition to being a terror-filled tale rife with body horror, it also deals with time travel. The mind-bending nature of Alan Wake 2 and how it explores concepts like parallel worlds and time loops makes it a solid option for gamers who are mainly drawn to Cronos: The New Dawn because of this subject.

Resident Evil 4

Whether it’s the original or the remake, Resident Evil 4 is a standout entry in the long-running horror franchise. Like many of the other games on this list, Resident Evil 4 is filled with gut-churning body horror and strong survival gameplay that offers a fun blend of action and jump scares.
