Splitgate 2 Adding Popular Features From Original Game

Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games has revealed the studio’s top priorities while developing the sequel shooter, and two features from the first game are confirmed to return. Splitgate 2 is a free-to-play first-person shooter and a successor to the 2019 title of the same name. The game utilizes portals to enable players to travel between two points on the map and attack through them with various gameplay modes on offer, including round-based team deathmatch and a Hot Zone mode similar to King of the Hill.

Splitgate 2 reported impressive player count growth since its beta took flight back in May 2025, which offered 25 weapons, 15 maps, and 10 modes to hungry fans of the series. The sequel later launched in full at the beginning of June on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox platforms, and the live-service game is designed to welcome new content regularly.

Splitgate 2 CEO Apologizes For Summer Game Fest Controversy

Ian Proulx, the CEO of Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games, apologizes for his controversial Summer Game Fest presentation following the backlash.

Posted on Twitter under the official Splitgate 2 account, the dev team updated the community on some of the top priorities being worked on, following the addition of Splitgate 2’s surprise battle royale mode that was added shortly after its release. A few of the main issues being tackled include fixing bugs that prevent players from daily and weekly progression, as well as shortening battle royale load times and improving performance overall. A key takeaway from the post, however, confirmed that Mastery Challenges and Ranked Arena, two features from the first game, are currently being developed. Mastery Challenges will allow users to achieve camos for guns, which has been a highly requested feature, and Ranked Arena will give players a good reason to grind in-game as well.

Fans were generally excited to see the additions being worked on, and one user asked if a battle royale ranked was being planned as well, to which the dev responded positively. Despite the confirmed new features, some players wasted no time in asking for additional content, such as “barracks” to view career stats, which the studio confirmed was in the works. It’s promising to see the devs interacting with the player base’s suggestions, which adds some positivity amidst the recent Splitgate 2 battle royale microtransaction backlash.

Fans of the shooter were disappointed to see high price tags attached to the battle royale’s microtransactions, such as cosmetic packs and bundles, some of which reached the $140 mark. In response to the controversy, Splitgate 2 CEO Ian Proulx addressed the community’s concerns and issued refunds. Additionally, 1047 went the extra mile and even adjusted the game’s microtransactions by cutting 50% off the initial price.
