Nintendo Fan Gets Second Switch 2 Dock—But There’s Something Weird About It

A Nintendo fan recently purchased an extra dock for their Switch 2, only to receive a defective unit with visible dents along one of its edges. This incident appears to be an isolated case of bad luck rather than evidence of broader quality control issues with Nintendo’s latest console.

Much like its predecessor, the Switch 2 ships with a dock used for connecting it to a TV or monitor. Likewise, this accessory can be purchased separately. Following a recent pricing adjustment, the Switch 2 Dock Set retails for $119.99 in the U.S., offering a solution for consumers needing a replacement outside warranty coverage or looking to move their console easily between multiple displays.

Switch 2 Breaks an All-Time Nintendo Record

Nintendo states that its new Switch 2 console launch has set an all-time company record within the first few days of its worldwide release.

Looking to address one such use case, Reddit user TaterCheese has recently ordered an extra Switch 2 dock. However, the product that arrived didn’t look quite right, featuring dents all across its top long edge on the front. As seen in the several images that the fan shared online, their dock arrived with over a dozen circular and squircle-shaped dents.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dock With Visual Defects

The visual imperfections seen in TaterCheese’s photos appear to be sink marks, a common injection molding defect. Modern plastic products like Nintendo’s Switch 2 dock are typically manufactured by squirting hot, melted plastic into a mold, then cooling the template tray. In some cases, the hot liquid will not spread evenly, producing an uneven surface even though the design calls for a flat finish. Among other reasons, this can happen when thicker parts of the plastic cool slower than the rest, causing them to shrink more and consequently pull inward.

Nintendo Reportedly Offering Refunds for Switch 2 Docks with Sink Marks

After posting the images online, TaterCheese contacted Nintendo about a possible replacement for their weird-looking dock. However, a company representative only offered a refund, contingent on returning the original item. Since the dents were purely cosmetic and didn’t affect functionality, the user decided it wasn’t worth the hassle of going through with a refund and purchasing another dock, having said as much in a recent Reddit post.

Game Rant was unable to find any other user reports of dented Switch 2 docks online. The unit received by TaterCheese hence appears to be an isolated incident rather than evidence of broader quality control issues in Nintendo’s Switch 2 manufacturing processes. The console itself has been off to a strong start, having sold 3.5 million units globally within four days of its June 5 launch, according to Nintendo’s latest commercial update.
