How to Get the Ice Key in Deltarune Chapter 3

Deltarune is filled with secret routes and hidden bosses across all of its chapters, and the third chapter of the game requires players to collect certain items to unlock the secret boss of Tenna’s TV Time game show. The Ice Key is the first of these items, but it’s locked behind a door that can only be opened after fulfilling certain criteria during Tenna’s game show segments.

The Ice Key is just one of three items that you’ll need to unlock the secret boss encounter at the end of Deltarune chapter three, and it’s easily missable if you don’t know where to look. Even if you meet the criteria, you can walk right past it without even realizing it. If you don’t want to redo the entire opening segment of chapter three, keep a close eye out in between rounds of Tenna’s show.

How to Get the Ice Key in Deltarune Chapter 3

Deltarune Chapter 3 S Rank

The Ice Key is obtained by completing a secret minigame after the first round of Tenna’s game show in Deltarune chapter 3. The minigame is locked inside a room exclusively available to S rank contestants, so you’ll need to score over 1500 points during the Zelda-style adventure minigame to earn an S rank and gain access to the room.

Deltarune S Rank Changing Room

After getting an S rank on the first part of Tenna’s game show, head into the changing room marked with a big “S” on the front. The changing room is basically just a dingy hallway with a vending machine and some weird NPCs. Talk to the character in front of the door on the left and he’ll tell you that there are even more games for you to play in the room behind him.

Deltarune Odd Controller

Head inside, turn left, and interact with the old game console. It’ll tell you that you need a controller, so exit the room and you can pick one up off the ground. Connect the controller to the game system and you’ll be transported back to the 2D Zelda minigame, but without your party. The cave where the shop used to be now just tells you to “Become Stronger.”

To move on, go all the way to the southern edge of the map and make your way underground into the “mail room” that you may have discovered during Tenna’s show. There’s a sword inside. Take it and kill every single enemy in the minigame. This will give you just enough XP to reach level three. At this point, you’ll unlock the ability to chop down catci. Head east and slice the two cacti blocking a previously inaccessible path to continue.

If you’re worried about worrying a pacifist run, these ghost enemies don’t count as true kills!

Deltarune Chapter 3 Cacti

You’ll find yourself in a new area covered in a purple haze. Continue the slaughter until you reach max level. You’re now strong enough to chop down trees. Head back to the main minigame area and start cutting your way through the forest. Any direction works. After moving through a few screens, you’ll find a chest containing the Ice Key. That’s all there is to it!

Deltarune Ice Key

At this point, you can continue with Tenna’s game show normally. Earning more S ranks will unlock more secret minigames in this back room, granting you even more rare items in return. These items are all required to access an alternate story path at the end of Deltarune chapter 3, so make a save just in case you don’t score enough points during an upcoming round and need to try again. It’s not as transformative as chapter 2’s Snowgrave route, but it’s still quite a bit different from the normal sequence of events.
