Ever since its premiere in 2021, Squid Game has entertained audiences with rich storytelling and brutal visuals. Prior to its release, the South Korean show managed to create a lot of buzz, and there were a lot of reasons for that. The series featured a good cast, the production design looked amazing, and it included innocent children’s games. However, these childhood games would turn out to be the deadliest part of the series.
Although its terrifying social commentary blew everyone’s minds, it was the games that kept viewers glued to their screens. Season 1 featured several unforgettable games, but two of the most horrifying ones — Tug of War and Glass Stepping Stones — made them gasp. But it seems the third and final season of the Netflix production is going to feature a game that will be as terrifying as the ones mentioned above.

A new clip from Squid Game Season 3 shows what happened after the failed rebellion and why Seong Gi-hun is shattered after what he witnessed.
The third season of Squid Game is going to be the end of Seong Gi-hun’s story. The previous two seasons saw Gi-hun and other players trying to win the prize money by taking part in the deadly games. But now that the show is coming to an end, the protagonist and the other remaining players will go through hell before even a chance to walk free. In Season 3, a new game will be introduced that might become the hardest game in the show’s history. Viewers got a glimpse of it when Netflix dropped the first full trailer for Season 3: “Jump Rope.” Why might this simple game turn out to be the most dangerous one?
What Is the ‘Jump Rope’ Game in Squid Game Season 3?
For obvious reasons, Netflix didn’t show much about the ‘Jump Rope’ game in the Squid Game season 3 trailer. But whatever fans saw in the trailer is already sending chills down their spines. The game features the big doll, Young-hee, from the Red Light, Green Light game, and her boyfriend, Chul-su. (Yep, the doll has a boufriend now.) The game seems to feature a massive mechanical rope swinging across a platform at incredible speed. The players stand on what looks like a narrow ledge or small train track, trying to time their jumps perfectly. If they miss the jump, the contestants might fall off the ledge to the floor, killing them instantly. Or perhaps they could get struck by the rope itself, which might turn out to be sharp. If they come in contact with it, they might get severely injured or even die.
In reality, Jump Rope lets children or even adults test their rhythm, balance, stamina, and agility. However, this is Squid Game. The only fun part is surviving the competition. Players not only lose the game in this competition, but they also lose their lives. From the glimpse that Netflix has shown about the game, it appears that this brutal new version of the game features the psychological intensity of Tug of War, where every movement feels like life or death. Moreover, it plays with contestants’ (and audiences’) minds with the “fear of heights” aspect, similar to Glass Stepping Stones. In this game, the players will not be jumping rope, but they are also trying to evade a dangerous obstacle that will kill them if they don’t play this game with caution.
Why Jump Rope Might Be the Most Terrifying Game Yet
By now, it is evident that the games in this competition not only require the players to be attentive, but also physically strong. Just like Tug of War, the new game, Jump Rope, will test players’ physical endurance. They will have to jump constantly, time their jump with precision, keep their balance, and react quickly so that they can survive this game and get closer to the prize money. The players would have to do all of this in extreme and stressful situations. Moreover, the teaser indicates that the rope might speed up with each round, making it harder for the players to think and time their jump according to their calculations. This aspect of the game is just like what viewers saw in the Glass Stepping Stones game, where the players got only one chance. If they miscalculate the jump or the speed of the rope, it’s game over.
It will be interesting to see whether the Jump Rope game will be played individually or in teams. If the players are stacked in a line and told to jump one after the other like Glass Stepping Stones, the pressure becomes immense. They could see their fellow players falling to their deaths, making things even harder. The ending of Season 2 suggested that Team X and Team O had a lot of issues, which resulted in a bloodbath. This game might turn out to be a big game-changer and give players a chance to eliminate the next person by pushing them off the ledge.
Even though we can make a lot of speculation, it is obvious that this Jump Rope game might turn out to be the game-changing factor in the competition. It is clear that the games will continue in Squid Game season 3 with the remaining players, and the Frontman seems to be in no mood to stop. The makers of the series are coming out with guns blazing to give a satisfying yet brutal end to this already terrifying story. They know what made this show a global phenomenon, and they want to go out by showing that the show is a perfect mix of childhood nostalgia and brutal realism.
The Jump Rope teaser suggests that Season 3 will be even more intense, more creative, and more shocking than before. This game might not just be a simple game, and might pose some fascinating questions for viewers. Is the rope symbolic of life’s cycle? Is jumping a metaphor for risk-taking in a harsh capitalist world? Squid Game can never be just about the games; it is also about the world we live in and the moral decay happening across the globe.
