The Quantum Computer’s Qubit Level is one of the most important upgrades players can get in The Alters but it’s also one of the more involved ones that has a few different stages. It’s worth it, though, as increasing the Qubit Level is the key to getting more Alters and unlocking some major upgrades for your base.

How to Increase Qubit Level in The Alters
To increase Qubit Level, players need to find a Damaged Chip and craft it into a Qubit Chip using the Workshop. Once this is done, players can interact with the Quantum Computer in their base and hold down A/X to complete the upgrade process. This is the simplified version, but there’s a little more to it, so I’ll explain the steps below.
How to Find the Damaged Chip and Get a Qubit Chip
First, players need to track down the Damaged Chip. In Act 1, it can be found southeast of a player’s base. It’ll be in a white case, surrounded by debris from the ship. It’s similar to the debris that Jan’s possessions can be found in (which can be given to Alters to cheer them up!), but this case is a little bit different. I’ve included screenshots above of the exact location it can be found on the map, as well as the container it is found in.
Once this has been picked up, players need to return to their base and speak to their Technician Alter. The Alter will inform them that it’s a damaged Qubit Chip, but that it can be repaired. Players should then head to the Workshop and select the ‘Qubit Chip’ option under the ‘Base’ section of the Available Items page. The Qubit Chip costs 20 Metals, 20 Minerals, and the Damaged Chip, and takes approximately one hour to craft.
Upgrading the Quantum Computer and Qubit Level
All players need to do next is head to the Quantum Computer in their base and interact with it. This will inform players that a Qubit Upgrade is available. Press and hold A/X on this screen and after a little cutscene, players will have upgraded their Qubit Level in The Alters.
More Damaged Chips are needed to increase the Qubit Level further and only one can be found in Act 1. More Damaged Chips are obtained in the same way in future Acts.
What Does Increasing Qubit Level Do in The Alters?
More Alters, More Fun
A higher Qubit Level unlocks more Quantum Computer slots and things to Research. The Quantum Computer slots are important, as each Alter that players create takes up one slot. This means that players need to keep upgrading their Qubit Level to have more Alters to help achieve the various resource-gathering and tasks that need to be done around their base.
Research is the way players can unlock more modules for their base, increase their base size, and also get some efficiency bonuses for extracting the various materials they’ll need for further building out their base. The more the base grows, the more Alters that players need, which means they’ll need to increase their Qubit Level, which unlocks more research opportunities. The core gameplay loop is pretty clear there.
After reaching Qubit Level 2, I’d recommend getting the Base Expansion II upgrade to increase the size of the base and get more modules in. I’d then recommend getting both the Greenhouse and Recycler. The Greenhouse means players can make Raw Food, which then means they can make Cooked Meals in the Kitchen, while the Recycler will automatically produce Organics every day. The more Alters a player has, the more Organics the Recycler produces.#
