Overwatch 2 Has Disabled Doomfist

Overwatch 2 has temporarily disabled Doomfist in Competitive Play due to a glitch allowing him to freely empower his Rocket Punch while at full ultimate charge. Though fans can expect the leader of Talon to return to Competitive in Overwatch 2 once this bug is squashed, he is currently not playable in the format.

Many heroes have changed dramatically over the years, with the most drastic ones taking place during the transition into Overwatch 2 in October 2022. However, while some heroes had their entire kits changed, Doomfist was actually moved to a different role – while he was a damage character in Overwatch 1, he became a tank in its sequel.

Overwatch 2 teases even further changes to Sombra, the resident hacker of Future Earth known for her unique and debilitating abilities.

Now, a glitch with some of his Overwatch 2 abilities has gotten the leader of Talon temporarily banned from competitive play. Blizzard disabled the hero after an unintended interaction between Power Block, Rocket Punch, and Meteor Strike. While at full ultimate charge, a Doomfist player could cancel Meteor Strike early by activating Power Block to fully empower their next Rocket Punch, regardless of the damage absorbed. However, doing so would not consume the ultimate charge, essentially giving them free empowered Rocket Punches every time Power Block came off cooldown. Overwatch 2 fan Lo-fi Youth shared footage of this glitch in action on Twitter.

Doomfist Ultimate Cancel Power Block Glitch in Overwatch 2

Doomfist is not currently disabled in Quick Play or any Arcade modes at the moment, meaning skilled players might still be able to benefit from this bug in these casual formats. Additionally, because Doomfist is not currently available in Stadium, the new game mode added in Overwatch 2 Season 16 is not affected by the Talon leader’s time-out.

Needless to say, this interaction is obviously not intentional, so fans can expect it to be resolved soon. While the exact cause of this glitch is not yet known, Doomfist will almost certainly be fixed and ready for action in Overwatch 2 Competitive Play within the next couple of days, probably even sooner than that.

Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 is gearing up for Season 17, which begins on June 24. The major update will bring the Aatlis Flashpoint map to Overwatch 2 alongside Map Voting in Competitive Play, new Stadium battlefields and heroes, and a slew of balance changes. It remains to be seen if Doomfist will receive any buffs or nerfs in Season 17, but hopefully, none of the balance adjustments lead to further game-breaking glitches like this one.
