Marvel Rivals’ Future Foundation Skins Hide One Character in Plain Sight

Marvel Rivals’ consistent cosmetic output is wonderful for players who eagerly await costumes. It may be a while for some depending on who’s treated to a new skin in every one of Marvel Rivals’ seasons and BattlePasses, but eventually a stray skin may come their way, whether it’s unique to them alone or part of a larger ensemble catalog that they’re included in; for example, Marvel Rivals’ Krakoa Resort costume theme began with skins for Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon, and one has recently launched for Jeff the Land Shark.

Any number of characters could receive their own future Krakoa Resort skin since that’s a theme created for Marvel Rivals, but that won’t be the case with every theme. Marvel Rivals’ Future Foundation theme, for instance, could feasibly feature other characters, though only four have been confirmed thus far via Mister Fantastic’s Future Foundation skin-linked MVP—himself, Invisible Woman, Thing, and Spider-Man. It’s interesting, then, that Spider-Man’s has been carefully obscured and back-burned while Future Foundation skins for Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and Thing have not.

Marvel Rivals has continuously added skins to the game since launch, making it unsurprising that leakers have uncovered upcoming additions so easily

For Some Reason, Marvel Rivals is Keeping Spider-Man’s Future Foundation Skin Close to the Chest

Marvel Rivals’ Future Foundation skins are some of the most intriguing costumes that NetEase has announced, and not only because of how distinct they are visually. They’re certainly an unprecedented and polarizing iteration on the comics’ decidedly basic and sparse design, and the concept of dynamic emotes that they are debuting could have far-reaching implications for skins overall. Few MVPs also share a cinematic with multiple characters (Cloak and Dagger notwithstanding), and Mister Fantastic’s having three other characters with him is already novel and niche without Spider-Man being tucked away in it.

Marvel Rivals’ Future Foundation costumes are loosely inspired by those that first appeared in FF (2011) #1.

Moreover, Marvel Rivals recently heralded the arrival of Invisible Woman and Thing’s Future Foundation skins, available tomorrow, but Spider-Man’s is still noticeably absent and somewhat mysterious, perhaps purposefully so. It’s not as if Marvel Rivals hasn’t given players a glimpse of what its Future Foundation Spider-Man will look like, and yet the effort with which Mister Fantastic’s Future Foundation MVP goes to hide Spider-Man is quite strange.

Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and Thing’s Future Foundation skins have been on display this entire time, thanks to Mister Fantastic’s Future Foundation MVP placing all three of them front and center in its ending freeze-frame pose. However, these characters are also depicted in the MVP cinematic itself, while Spider-Man is heard and not seen. Spider-Man not being in the foreground—trailing behind Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and Thing on a web-line and finally seen far in the freeze-frame’s background—isn’t egregious as it’s Mister Fantastic’s MVP after all.

Still, Spider-Man barely belongs to this MVP cinematic as is, and it hasn’t been confirmed if all Future Foundation characters’ skins will share the same MVP or not. Plus, the opposite issue is affecting Invisible Woman and Thing, whose Future Foundation skins have already been revealed and consequently lack any allure they might’ve had if players were left in the dark concerning what they looked like.

It’s interesting, then, that Spider-Man’s has been carefully obscured and back-burned while Future Foundation skins for Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and Thing have not.

Anticipation grows stronger with each passing day that Spider-Man’s Future Foundation skin has not yet been fully revealed. Nonetheless, players know it will be added at some point in the future—soon, most likely, if Invisible Woman and Thing’s skins are following Mister Fantastic’s so closely—and NetEase may have been wise to keep it slightly concealed for the time being if Spider-Man’s Future Foundation skin has its own MVP or becomes one of the Spider-Man’s most popular skins in Marvel Rivals.
