Konami revealed a new multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater called “Fox Hunt,” and it’s not the mode that Metal Gear Online fans were expecting. Instead, Fox Hunt is a new original online mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater with “completely different” gameplay, according to one of the developers from Konami.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater aims to be a faithful remake of the original 2004 stealth action game with new graphics, 3D audio, and other refinements. The remake retains the original game’s voice-overs, gameplay systems, and features, including Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater’s Snake vs. Monkey mode. In the Xbox Series X|S version, players are treated to the Snake vs Bomberman mode, which sees Hudson Soft’s iconic character take the place of the Pipo Monkeys from Sony’s Ape Escape. Moreover, the Metal Gear Online component from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence will not be returning, as Fox Hunt will take its place in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

During the Konami Press Start broadcast, a segment of the live stream focused on the new Fox Hunt mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, with mode director Yu Sahara shedding some light on this new addition. According to Sahara, Fox Hunt shares the same world with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but the gameplay is completely different. Sahara understands that fans probably think of Metal Gear Online when someone says “Metal Gear multiplayer,” but Fox Hunt is its own new type of mode. The director also notes that the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since Metal Gear Online, so it took a lot of careful consideration to think of what a new suitable online mode should look like for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

  • Fox Hunt replaces the franchise’s staple Metal Gear Online mode from past installments.
  • The new mode offers different gameplay compared to the base game and takes “camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level.”

When speaking about the stealth and survival elements of the Metal Gear series, Sahara stated that the team is “taking camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level.” The director also implied that there will be unique elements with the “back-and-forth tension of staying hidden or searching out the enemy,” which will help create an online experience unique to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Pre-orders for the $69.99 Standard Edition and $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition are available now, with the latter featuring six exclusive uniforms, two face camos, and a pair of animal masks.
