How One Time-Limited Pokemon TCG Pocket Card Suddenly Skyrocketed to the Top of the Meta

Summary

  • Extradimensional Crisis set is a hit with fans and competitive decks, changing the game’s landscape.
  • Exclusive promo cards from events can’t be obtained elsewhere, like Dusk Mane Necrozma.
  • Dusk Mane Necrozma is a powerful card, comboing well in decks, with a time limit for acquisition.

It has been just under two weeks since the release of Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Extradimensional Crisis set, and it is already a massive hit among fans and in terms of competitive decks, changing the landscape just as much as the bigger Celestial Guardians expansion did. Not only is the base kit of Extradimensional Crisis massive for battling and deckbuilding, but Pokemon TCG Pocket also has an ongoing event with time-limited rewards that players shouldn’t miss out on. These are promo cards that are unique to the event, meaning they cannot be obtained anywhere else, and one of them is already carving a path for itself in the current meta decks.

Exclusive promo cards that can only be obtained via events are nothing new for Pokemon TCG Pocket, though they are arguably one of the biggest issues with the game, considering they may never return. This already happened with Lapras Ex, just a little after the game launched its Genetic Apex set, the first ever for the game, and it ignited debates about whether this should happen again. Extradimensional Crisis’ meta is seeing decks like Buzzwole Ex with Kartana and Pheromosa dominate alongside Silvally variants and the evergreen Darkrai Ex and Giratina Ex, but the new promo cards include Dusk Mane Necrozma, which is being featured in high-percentage win rate decks across the board.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s New S-Tier Deck Breaks The Game With a Hidden Combo

Pokemon TCG Pocket has some new S-tier decks that are very powerful, and one of them keeps winning thanks to one hidden strategy.

Dusk Mane Necrozma has 110 HP, which is good for a basic Pokemon that is not an Ex card, and it has an attack called Black Metal that deals 100 damage for three Energy (1 Metal, 2 colorless), with the drawback that it needs to discard one Metal Energy from itself after attacking. This may not seem like much on the surface, but it’s an incredibly powerful card thanks to its Ultra Beast status, which combos with Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s new Lusamine Supporter card.

Lusamine allows players to give two Energy to a Pokemon from the discard pile, as long as the opponent already has one point or more, meaning that one can potentially lead with a different card or Dusk Mane Necrozma itself, and when it’s defeated, use Lusamine on Dusk Mane Necrozma to get it ready to attack immediately. This lends itself to many good strategies, and currently, the top options are as follows:

  • Use one copy or even two of Dusk Mane Necrozma in Solgaleo Ex / Shiinotic decks to have a counter for Oricorio
  • Run two copies of Dusk Mane Necrozma alongside Silvally in a Supporter-heavy deck to always attack for 100 damage or more each turn
  • Use Dusk Mane Necrozma in Ultra Beast decks with Celesteela and Stakataka

As the meta evolves, Dusk Mane Necrozma may have a different role over time, becoming more or less popular depending on lists that win tournaments online. Still, it’s currently a great card to have, and it can be a pain to deal with for some meta decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

It’s worth noting that Dusk Mane Necrozma and the other cards from the Ultra Necrozma Ex event will only be available to get until June 14.

Why Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Should Hurry to Get Dusk Mane Necrozma

What makes Dusk Mane Necrozma so desirable is its Ultra Beast tag, but it’s also one of the strongest attackers for Metal decks overall, as cards like Dialga Ex yield two points to the opponent and need four Energy to deal considerable damage. While Ultra Necrozma Ex itself may not see much play due to the requirement of both Psychic and Metal Energy for its biggest attack, Dusk Mane Necrozma can be a powerhouse in Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Silvally decks and other combos, making it a must-have despite its status as a time-limited card.
