A recent Genshin Impact leak has revealed some key details about Mare Jivari, as Version 5.8 is shaping up to be a triumphant final chapter of the Natlan era. While all eyes are on Nod-Krai in the wake of its teaser, Genshin Impact has one last update left before the Traveler and Paimon journey to Snezhnaya and its autonomous province. Mare Jivari has been teased since the launch of the game in September 2020, and players will finally be able to set foot on the windless land in Version 5.8.

While not much is known about Mare Jivari in Genshin Impact, it is described as a remote island untethered to time, appearing and disappearing throughout Natlan’s history without much rhyme or reason. It is said to contain a sea of fire that was tamed by the Firewalker, and more recently, it disappeared from Teyvat after a dark, enormous creature roamed its ashen plains. Version 5.6 featured Albedo using an alchemical ingredient from a Mare Jivari creature to create a body for Durin, while Version 5.2 established that Enjou was looking to enter the Mare Jivari.

As shared by Genshin Leakflow, the Flagship Event for Version 5.8 will also answer the mystery of Bennett’s origin, confirming his half-Natlanese heritage. Furthermore, the leak seems to strongly imply that Mare Jivari itself could be a shard of the fallen Eternal Moon, which may tie the zone with the overarching storyline of Nod-Krai.

Mare Jivari was long speculated to be tied to Istaroth, the Shade of Time, also known as the Thousand Winds. Given the island’s nature as a place where the wind does not blow, as well as its unique connection to time, it’s a fairly sound theory. However, the leak mentions that the Bakunawa, an immortal monster from Mare Jivari, draws its immortality from consuming the remnants of the Eternal Moon, making no mention of Istaroth. Curiously, some players claim that the Bakunawa can be heard from the western coast of Natlan in Genshin Impact, which would hardly be the first clue left behind by the developers.
