Day three of Elden Ring Nightreign culminates in your party facing a Nightlord — a formidable enemy boss who tests your team’s cohesion and preparedness. One of the Nightlords, Maris, Fathom of Night, is the final boss on the Augur expedition. Unlike most bosses, who tend to stay on the ground, Maris is an entirely airborne/floating boss.
Given the nature of this boss fight, most melee builds will have a difficult time engaging with Maris. On the contrary, ranged builds and spellcasters will shine in the Augur expedition. The following is a comprehensive strategy to beat Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Best Party Composition For Augur In Elden Ring Nightreign
Maris, Fathom of Night is a Nighlord who loves to fly around the arena and makes it incredibly challenging for melee players to catch up. Even when melee characters manage to close the gap to the boss, they’ll often find themselves out of stamina to even pull off a few attacks.
Given the inherent limitation of melee builds against Maris, an optimized party should consist of archers and ranged spell casters. When playing with friends, a three-man Ironeye team can decimate this Nightlord. It’s also advised that your party is above level 12 during this boss fight to enjoy balanced combat.
The following are the recommended party compositions for the Augur expedition:
In case you’re queuing up with randoms, it’s in yours and your party’s best interest that you pick Ironeye.
Elemental Weakness Of Maris, Fathom Of Night
Like all Nightlords, Maris, Fathom of Night is also weak to a specific element type, and in this case, the Nightlord is vulnerable to Lightning.
As you explore Limveld on the first two days of your expeditions, it’s highly advised to seek out armaments, items, and buffs that deal and amplify lightning damage.
There are several ways of acquiring elemental weapons in Elden Ring Nightreign, including:
- Finding ruins denoted by the respective element, and defeating the boss there.
- Purchasing elemental weapons from merchants.
- Defeating formidable enemies that stalk Limveld.
In case the loot RNG doesn’t favor you, consider stocking up on Lightning Grease to even the odds.

Recommended Combat Strategy For Augur Boss Fight
The Augur Nightlord fight can be categorized into three distinct phases: attack, dream, and sleep bomb. Understanding how the boss behaves in each of these phases will help you navigate the battlefield, respond to the boss’ attacks, and consequently beat it with ease.
Augur Attack Phase
In the attack phase, Maris tends to float around the arena, releasing a series of sleep squids that chase down players shortly before exploding. Getting caught in the explosion deals immediate FP and HP damage and stacks the sleep status effect on your character.
In addition to using sleep bombs, Maris only has three attacks that you’ll need to watch out for:
- Crashing Waves: Occasionally, Maris may target one of the party members and hurl crashing waves at them. The key to avoiding this attack involves dodging into the wave and not away from it.
- Vertical Tornado AOE: Maris can also fly high before crashing to the ground with a wide tornado-like AOE attack. You can avoid the AOE by either sprinting away from the boss or timing your dodge.
- Horizontal AOE: In addition to the vertical AOE attack, Maris also does a horizontal sweep on the ground level, dealing heavy damage to anyone caught in its way. Again, timing your dodge is key to avoiding damage.
During this phase, Maris also summons a bunch of tentacles that attack players within their range. These tentacles have low HP and, if you’re near them, consider taking them out to prevent being overwhelmed. As a bonus, eliminating these tentacles causes a series of blue orbs to emerge, which are then automatically hurled at the boss, dealing a chunk of free damage.
Augur Dream Phase
Once Maris loses about 30% of its HP, the boss will tend to fly away from players before curling up for a brief sleep. As Maris enters the dream phase, it begins to apply the sleep status effect to all players. Succumbing to the sleep status effect momentarily incapacitates players and causes major FP and HP damage.
You can interrupt Maris’ sleep phase by dealing enough lightning damage or with one of the damage-dealing ultimate arts.
Augur Sleep Bomb Phase
At about 50% HP remaining, Maris drops a large sleep bomb, much like a tactical nuke, covering half of the arena and inflicting immediate sleep status effect and massive damage.
On the bright side, the descent of this sleep bomb is quite slow, allowing archers and mages to take it out before it can make contact with the ground.
The next time Maris resorts to the tactical nuke approach, it drops two sleep bombs instead of one, each covering half of the arena. If you’re playing with friends, communication can make it much easier to delegate efforts and take out both bombs before they hit the ground.
Nonetheless, a team of Ironeyes with lightning bows will make short work of Augur, as this boss doesn’t have too erratic attack patterns.
