Santa Monica Studio appears set to add God of War-like puzzles to an unannounced game, as revealed by a certain job listing. Apart from the hard-hitting combat, the God of War series also significantly features mentally stimulating puzzles, offering a fun change of pace for the players.

Over the past 20 years, God of War has become widely popular for its brutal action and awe-inspiring characters, establishing itself as one of PlayStation’s most important brands. Since the 2018 reboot, the hack-and-slash franchise has doubled down on the storytelling aspect, which was one of the defining reasons for the overwhelming success of its recent releases. Besides the story, another element that has been a part of God of War‘s core experience for a long time is its puzzle-based gameplay. Recently, new information about developer Santa Monica Studio’s future project revealed that this particular aspect of God of War titles has been chosen to be incorporated into the same.

God of War Moving Back to Greece With Its Next Game Would Raise One Obvious Question

It’s been rumored the next God of War could be returning to Greece, and if that’s true, it would raise one obvious question about a major character.

A job listing, posted by PlayStation, for an unannounced project at Santa Monica Studio mentions that the interested candidate must have experience of creating puzzles “in the God of War style.” Evidently, this vacancy for the role of Senior Staff Level Designer confirms that the in-development title will take a page out of God of War‘s book when it comes to puzzle design. Apart from this, the listing also highlighted certain other areas which the PlayStation-owned developer’s future release has in common with the highly rated mythology-based series, such as a focus on combat, narrative, and exploration. Moreover, the job requirements reveal the involvement of “3D world building,” which indicates that the title is different from the 2.5D God of War game also rumored to be in the works at the American studio.

God of War Studio’s New Game to Take Inspiration from the Franchise’s Puzzles

The aforementioned job opening at Santa Monica Studio firmly establishes that the in-development project draws considerable inspiration from God of War, even though it may not necessarily be directly related to the IP. Back in May, another job listing for the God of War developer hinted that it was building a game that could be something totally new, with the post containing intriguing details about the project, such as martial arts and stylized animation.

The year 2025 saw God of War celebrate its 20th anniversary in March, and hence it almost looks like the perfect year to announce what’s next for the veteran studio behind the long-running franchise. However, after Santa Monica Studio’s no-show during PlayStation’s State of Play event held earlier in June, the timing for the reveal of its next project seems to be more or less shrouded in mystery.
