New Genshin Impact Endgame Could Be Bad News for Most Players

Summary

  • New Genshin Impact endgame mode, Stygian Onslaught, will require high investment and challenge players significantly.
  • Stygian Onslaught will feature three bosses with total HP exceeding 30 million and a time limit of 180 seconds per fight.
  • Success in Stygian Onslaught will reward players with weapon skins, but the difficulty may limit access to a small percentage.

Recent datamining on the Genshin Impact beta reveals a rather steep difficulty for the Stygian Onslaught, a new endgame mode that will require a level of investment that most players will be unable to meet. The Spiral Abyss and the Imaginarium Theater are the current endgame modes in Genshin Impact, but HoYoverse is planning to add another one to the mix in Version 5.7. Whereas the Imaginarium Theater allowed players to borrow each other’s characters, the Stygian Onslaught will seemingly allow them to team up together, at least for the first few chambers.

However, this new endgame mode in Genshin Impact promises a challenge that far exceeds the difficulty of the Spiral Abyss, inspired by the Unlimited Fighting Championship from Version 5.5. As far as combat events go, the Unlimited Fighting Championship was rather controversial in the Genshin Impact community, with many players critiquing two things in particular: it was made with whales in mind, and it started teams at zero energy.

Genshin Impact’s recent Special Program event reveals which four characters will be featured on the limited banner in the upcoming Version 5.7.

These two factors will seemingly make their way to the Stygian Onslaught, as HomDGCat has revealed that the total hit points for the final level will easily surpass 30 million across three boss fights. To make it even more challenging, Genshin Impact players will be expected to defeat these three bosses in under 180 seconds, with each boss fight demanding a different team of characters. Furthermore, a character will only be able to feature once across all three teams, requiring twelve unique Genshin Impact characters to even attempt the challenge.

Genshin Impact: Stygian Onslaught Bosses

  • Hydro Tulpa

    • Estimated HP: between 13 and 16 million
  • Lava Dragon Statue

    • Estimated HP: greater than 10 million
  • Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device

    • Estimated HP: between 13 and 16 million

The three bosses for the sixth level of the Stygian Onslaught will be the Hydro Tulpa, the Lava Dragon Statue, and the Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device. This will notably favor Freeze teams led by Escoffier in Genshin Impact, with the Hydro Tulpa once again deterring players from using Neuvillette. As a reward for clearing this challenge, players will allegedly be given the ability to change their weapon skin. However, only a very small percentage of players will be able to do so, as not even Mavuika teams come close to meeting the damage check at base constellations.

While players will be able to obtain other rewards in the Stygian Onslaught, such as an item that re-rolls Artifacts in Genshin Impact, weapon skins will be exclusively locked behind the final level. It remains to be seen how the community will accept the new endgame, given their reaction to the combat event in Version 5.5. Version 5.7 is set to launch on June 18, 2025.
