Xbox players will soon have a brand-new IP to enjoy, as Double Fine revealed Keeper as their latest game during the June 8 Xbox Games Showcase. Double Fine confirmed that Keeper will launch on October 17 on Xbox consoles, along with simultaneous releases on PC, PS5, and Xbox Game Pass.

As the latest game in Double Fine’s repertoire, Keeper is a third-person atmospheric adventure game that tells a story without any words. The new Double Fine IP takes place on a post-apocalyptic island where humanity has long gone. Players will assume control of a lighthouse that has sprouted legs and learned to walk on its own. After standing alone for years on end, a mysterious purpose drives the lighthouse to set a course to a mountain in the middle of the island. The lighthouse eventually teams up with a bird to solve puzzles and overcome the world’s perils. Keeper is directed by Lee Petty, the former lead artist behind Brutal Legend.

The head of Xbox Phil Spencer appears during the Xbox Games Showcase to confirm four massive titles launching in 2026.

During the June 8 Xbox Games Showcase, Double Fine stated that Keeper would be released worldwide on Friday, October 17. Keeper will launch on Xbox consoles and PC, along with PS5 and the Xbox Game Pass day one lineup. Although other details about Double Fine’s new project remain elusive, Keeper‘s Steam page stated that high-dynamic range picture options and over 25 supported languages for the user interface will be included. Double Fine also recommended that Keeper be played with a controller. Double Fine shared a short trailer with gameplay during the showcase to give viewers a small taste of what to expect when playing Keeper. Colorful environments and fantastical beings were shown throughout the video, though it remains to be seen how the lighthouse and the bird will interact with them.

The reveal of Keeper came at a busy time for Double Fine. Earlier in the spring, the studio celebrated the 20th anniversary of its hit title Psychonauts with a sale that brought the hit 3D title down to 89 cents on Steam for a week. Although the Psychonauts series hasn’t seen any activity since 2021’s Psychonauts 2, it remains a consistent fan-favorite.

Keeper‘s October 17 release also falls days before Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden 4, with both titles also listed as Day One Xbox Game Pass launches. All in all, Double Fine fans will have plenty to look forward to later this year.
