One Character Might Be The Most Dangerous To The Games

Summary

  • No-Eul’s backstory reveals her motivation to reunite with her daughter and potentially wreak havoc from within the Squid Game system.
  • No-Eul’s insider status makes her a more dangerous threat than Gi-Hun, as she has the ability to gather intel and stage a rebellion.
  • A potential alliance between No-Eul and Gi-Hun in Season 3 could be a game-changer, with their differing skills and goals complementing each other effectively.

When Squid Game debuted in 2021, it didn’t take much time for Seong Gi-Hun to become the face of the series. However, when viewers are introduced to Gi-Hun and his imperfections, they realize that he is vulnerable and has made some terrible decisions in his life. As the series progressed, viewers began empathizing with the character, and the decisions he made during the Squid Games seemed necessary. But things changed when he returned to the competition in Season 2 in order to destroy it from within. He didn’t just want to compete; he wanted to let others know that these games are “twisted fun” for the elites. Although Squid Game is primarily focused on Gi-Hun, Season 2 introduced certain characters that were as important as he was. One such character is Kang No-Eul.

No-Eul’s entrance into the game was mysterious. As the season progressed, the audience got to know her motivations and why she joined the games, not as a player, but as a guard. No-Eul was a cold-blooded assassin of The Frontman and made it clear that she didn’t care about people or their emotions. But some moments hinted that No-Eul had enough of her superiors and wanted to work on her own. With everything that happened in Season 2 of Squid Game, it seems inevitable that No-Eul is not just any secondary character. Some viewers believe that she might be the protagonist that they are looking for.

In Season 2 of Squid Game, No-Eul is introduced as an ordinary person who is trying to earn money by working as a mascot at a local theme park. However, soon people realize that her story is much more intriguing. She is a North Korean defector and former soldier who fled to South Korea after killing her superior officer. She had to leave her infant daughter in North Korea, and now she is seeking help from South Korean contractors to reunite with her daughter. While doing her job as a mascot, one child takes a particular liking to her character. But when she resigns from her job, the person taking her place ignores the child. No-Eul is walking away from the place when she learns that the same child is being taken to the hospital.

Later that night, while sleeping in her car, she hears a knock and believes it must be the police. However, it was a man who gave her a card. She eventually contacts the person on the card, realizing that entering the games could give her enough money to find her daughter and help the child in the hospital. Shockingly, it is revealed that No-Eul has entered the games, not as a player, but as a guard wearing that iconic pink dress.

Viewers begin to notice that she behaves differently. On one hand, she doesn’t shy away from killing a man who actually survived the Red Light, Green Light game. On the other hand, she lets a man survive and doesn’t kill him. She has problems with her manager throughout. Small moments hint that she isn’t fully loyal to the system, and that she might be planning something much bigger. While Gi-Hun fights from the outside in Squid Game, No-Eul may already be inside, working as a silent saboteur.

Why No-Eul Could Be More Dangerous Than Gi-Hun

There’s no doubt that Gi-Hun has undeniable emotional strength. However, he has one major disadvantage: access. In Season 2, he decided to take down the game by re-entering the games. But he can only do so from the outside. His every move is being followed, watched, and limited by the Frontman’s surveillance. Moreover, the inclusion of the Frontman in the games makes his rebellion less impactful. He knows what Gi-Hun is about to do.

Meanwhile, No-Eul is a part of the system and knows how it works. She knows the hallways, watches how the games are constructed and controlled, and understands the rules better than anyone. Until now, she has been obeying orders like a good worker, but she is losing her grip now and can do anything. In Season 2, it was already seen how No-Eul has been disobeying certain orders and killing people even when she is not supposed to. One of the masked managers had to talk to her about what she was doing, reminding her how he gave her a chance to change her life with this job. Although No-Eul was grateful, she made the manager realize that she was just doing what she was told.

This moment was pivotal in showing that No-Eurl wouldn’t think twice before taking things into her hands and doing what she feels is right. Her disguise as a guard also gives her the perfect cover to gather intel, study the system’s weaknesses, and wait for the right moment to strike. And that makes her more dangerous to the organization than Seong Gi-Hun ever was.

But No-Eul needs to be extra careful about whether she plans to start a rebellion from within and support Gi-Hun. No-Eul could find ways to access the never-before-seen footage or files of the games, the VIPs, or even the Frontman. With the guards’ access to secure areas, she might be able to steal data from the command center and send the evidence to the outside world. Both seasons of Squid Game have made it clear that secrecy is the biggest shield for the competition, and if the truth about the games is exposed, the entire system could collapse.

On the other hand, what if there were more guards like No-Eul? They were employed with the promise of money and were forced to do the dirty work of their alleged masters. She could reach out to them and start a rebellion from the inside. Imagine the moment when the guards turn their weapons not on the players, but on each other. That level of twist would be enough for the games to stop and create panic in the minds of the VIPs.

Another strategy she could use is to recruit some players as her allies. Gyeong-seok, the father of the child who was admitted to the hospital that No-Eul visited, is at the games as well, and No-Eul is helping him. He could be the bridge between her and Gi-Hun, and tell the players what they need to do in order to get out of this competition. These small acts of rebellion can build toward a larger revolution, especially if done with patience.

Can No-Eul & Gi-Hun Team Up?

This would be a dream scenario for everyone. A partnership between No-Eul and Gi-Hun in Squid Game Season 3 would be magnificent. Both have different ideologies and personalities, but they might have the same goal. This could be a fitting end to their respective stories, and a change of heart for No-Eul. With his determination and her sharp mind, they could do something better and stop the games.

Season 2 has already suggested that this battle is too big for one person. While Gi-Hun has the strength to move forward, someone like No-Eul could help him by providing him with useful strategies to annihilate the game once and for all. She is silent, she is hidden in plain sight, and she might turn out to be the most dangerous threat to the Frontman and the games.

Squid Game season 3 will premiere exclusively on Netflix on June 27.
