How To Get The Hero’s Sword On Outset Island

At the very start of the game, as Link tests out his brand-new telescope, you will see a girl fall from the clutches of a gigantic bird into the forest above Outset Island. But to get past the trees blocking the way into the forest, you need to get a sword.

To get a sword, The Wind Waker players should head into Orca’s house, beneath the porch where an old man with a large head beckons you to talk to him. Walk into Orca’s house and talk to the village swordsman to learn the ways of the sword.

After you complete this brief melee combat tutorial, The Wind Waker players will receive the Hero’s Sword permanently. Head back to the east side of town and walk up the hill, slash at the trees to cut them down, then continue into the woods above Outset Island with your new sword in hand.

How To Retrieve Your Sword In The Forsaken Fortress

After you board the pirate ship, Link will be brought to the Forsaken Fortress. Unfortunately, as a result of the pirates launching Link out of a cannon into the walls of the fortress, Link loses his sword.

To retrieve your sword, you must make your way through the Forsaken Fortress, using any weapons and taking advantage of stealth mechanics to get to the high-up spot where Link’s sword fell.

To start, walk into the spotlight-filled plaza and carefully make your way to the stairs to your right.

You can pick up a barrel and hold it over your head to help avoid being detected. However, if any enemy or spotlight sees the barrel move, you will still get caught.

Follow the ramp to your right and climb the ladder to the searchlight. Break the pot with sticks, pick up a stick, and defeat the Bokoblin that mans this searchlight. On defeat, the searchlight will permanently point into the sky and away from a crucial path you must use later on.

Continue across this upper level of the interior Forsaken Fortress until you reach another area you must swing across. Go into the next room, climb the ladder on the side of the exterior walkway, and defeat this Bokoblin to turn off the final searchlight.

After this, continue through the Forsaken Fortress until you enter a room with two patrolling Moblin enemies. Pick up a barrel and slowly make your way toward the stairs and exit door on the right side of the room. If you get too close to a Moblin while moving, or are in its path, you will be sent to the dungeon Jail and will have to make your way back.

Once you get past the Moblins, continue up the stairs, avoid another Moblin with a barrel once again, then continue up the stairs to find where Link’s sword fell! Pick up the Hero’s Sword and defeat the enemies to continue through the Forsaken Fortress.
