Deadpool is following in Batman’s footsteps in an unexpected way via Marvel’s Deadpool VR, making him the latest superhero character to get a virtual reality game. Marvel’s Deadpool VR has been announced at Summer Game Fest, and the devs have taken the opportunity to premiere a trailer giving players an idea of what to expect.
Virtual reality isn’t completely mainstream, but it’s popular enough that multiple VR devices have received a variety of superhero games. Iron Man VR launched for the original PlayStation VR, and performed well enough to be ported to the Meta Quest 2 two years later. Years prior to that, Marvel Powers United VR released exclusively for the Oculus Rift.

Now Marvel is giving VR another shot, this time bringing Deadpool to virtual reality. Marvel’s Deadpool VR gives players an opportunity to rampage through enemies as the legendary Merc with a Mouth, who is voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. The game, which received a red band trailer, is being brought to life by Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios in collaboration with Marvel Games. Players will be able to shoot, stab, punch, do parkour, and interact with enemies and the environment in a way that’s only possible in virtual reality. Deadpool is shown engaging in plenty of combat, which includes plenty of gorey moments, with Deadpool notably chucking a decapitated head at the enemy, and killing another bad guy by pushing their head into an active propeller.
Deadpool VR Has Established Virtual Reality Devs Behind It
While the upcoming game may bring to mind memories of Batman: Arkham VR or Iron Man VR, neither of those titles were developed by Twisted Pixel, which Deadpool had some tongue-in-cheek comments about within the trailer. However, Twisted Pixel is no stranger to VR, with the company being acquired by Meta back in 2021. Prior to that acquisition, Twisted Pixel produced several games for Oculus/Meta devices, including Wilson’s Heart, Defector, and Path of the Warrior for the Oculus Rift. The announcement for Deadpool VR notes that the team “spent years capturing Deadpool’s unique blend of parkour and combat,” and specifically points to the experience it gained from its time spent developing beat-’em-up Path of the Warrior.
For now, Deadpool VR lacks a solid release date, but the developer is targeting a launch sometime later in 2025. Given the success of prior Meta-exclusive virtual reality games like fellow superhero title Batman: Arkham Shadow or the VR version of the original Resident Evil 4, Marvel’s Deadpool VR has some big shoes to fill to impress Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S owners.
