Spoilers ahead for 28 Years Later.
Dead by Daylight has a way of making players feel isolated and afraid through the way it portrays its Killers and Survivors. The multiplayer horror game gives players the opportunity to control either role as they navigate through dark and eerie maps. Dead by Daylight is also known for doing crossovers with various horror franchises to bring iconic characters to the game, adding new levels of fear to each match.
One of the most recent horror movies that’s been making waves is 28 Years Later, the much-awaited third film in the 28 Days Later series. Similar to the last two movies, where the rage virus has taken over entire cities and countries, 28 Years Later explores an isolated British island where quarantined citizens exist and survive amid the ongoing infection on the mainland. Naturally, many of the infected zombies have also evolved throughout the years, which results in a terrifying new threat called the Alpha. If Dead by Daylight were to ever explore a crossover with 28 Years Later, now is the perfect opportunity to do so, with a sequel to 28 Years coming next year and another movie planned if it does well.

How 28 Years Later’s Alpha Zombie Could Fit As a Dead by Daylight Killer
In Dead by Daylight, Killers are essentially sent by The Entity from different realms to hunt down and sacrifice every Survivor that comes into their paths. These Killers come in various forms and have unique abilities that allow them to terrorize their prey. This is why Dead by Daylight‘s crossovers work so well; the game gives fans the chance to play as and against numerous horror icons, like Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger (The Nightmare) and even Five Nights at Freddy’s Springtrap (The Animatronic).
Recently, 28 Years Later actor Alfie Williams, who plays Spike in the film, said in an interview with 1883 Magazine that he loves playing video games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Dead by Daylight during his free time. In another interview, he specifically shared that he loves playing the Killer in Dead by Daylight, and enjoys trying out new characters. The game is quite fitting for someone whose breakout role is a movie about survival and working together in order to survive a world overridden with rage virus zombies. It especially strikes a chord seeing how Spike, with the help of Dr. Ian Kelson (played by Ralph Fiennes), uses his wits to ward off the Alpha that’s chasing them on the mainland. So, it would be equally interesting to see a world where Williams gets to play as an Alpha in a possible Dead by Daylight x 28 Years Later crossover.
28 Years Later‘s Alpha zombies are the biggest and strongest of their kind, often portrayed as a towering figure that can rip off a person or animal’s head and parts of their spine clean. Every time the Alpha appears on-screen, it gives a sense of dread and hopelessness because it can kill people in an instant once he catches them. Although there are still many questions about Alphas in 28 Years Later‘s world, they have definitely become one of the most memorable parts of the film. If the Alpha was a Dead by Daylight Killer, his kill animation could be a gory shot of the Survivor getting their head and spine ripped out of their body. He could also have the special ability briefly running superfast to close the distance between himself and Survivors, with the creature’s loud footsteps sure to instill the same fear as his movie counterpart.
Design-wise, Dead by Daylight could retain the Alpha’s imposing figure while also making sure he’s not fully nude in the game.
At the same time, Survivors could be given access to morphine darts, the same ones that Dr. Kelson uses to temporarily sedate Alphas, so they could have time to start up the generators. Hiding in underground bunkers just like Spike and Dr. Kelson could also be advantageous to Survivors, especially if Dead by Daylight releases a map inspired by the mainland in 28 Years Later, which could even include the Bone Temple that Dr. Kelson built.
Granted, there are many other horror franchises that could get a spot on Dead by Daylight‘s crossover radar. But considering 28 Years Later‘s record-breaking success and the fans’ anticipation of its sequel, The Bone Temple, this would be the perfect time for developer Behaviour Interactive to jump at the opportunity to turn the Alpha into a playable Killer. Unless, of course, The Bone Temple introduces another zombie form that’s more sinister than the Alpha and an even better fit for Dead by Daylight.
