The mobile game Pokemon TCG Pocket has stunned players with its frequent updates and expansion schedule. Since the release of Mythical Island in December, the simplified Pokemon Trading Card Game simulator has been releasing new cards to collect every month. It keeps Pokemon TCG Pocket fresh and interesting, but some players have lamented barely finishing one set just as another one is about to drop.
The new Eevee Grove set has a chance to mark a prominent shift in how a subset of fans interact with Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s sets. The themed booster pack will be the first time a set has focused on a Pokemon so prominently that it features in the name, and using Eevee specifically may be the secret weapon to keep Eevee Grove relevant. Putting the ever-popular Eevee evolution line in a pack all to itself was incredibly powerful with the physical TCG’s Prismatic Evolutions, and now that same storm is about to hit TCG Pocket.

Eevee Grove Has Everything To Keep Fans Attached to the Pack
When it comes to Pokemon, Eevee in particular has considerable power over fans. It’s so popular that it managed to achieve secondary mascot status through natural synergy with players compared to Pikachu’s purposeful marketing with each generation’s starters. Typically, fans of the Evolution Pokemon see it as their overall favorite, with Eevee fans looking to express themselves through merch and going out of their way to include its evolutions in their teams in the games. Many players will likely make it their goal to complete Eevee Grove quickly, be it to obtain the strongest cards in the set or to own all eight key critters after several sets have kept them separated.
There is one aspect to Eevee Grove’s demand that remains a mystery, however, and that’s the elephant in the room of the pack’s potential Shinies. Shinies have been a part of every Pokemon TCG Pocket set since Shining Revelry, but post-Shining Revelry, they come with a catch. Shinies have been in every following expansion, but as extra cards that are meant to surprise players. From Celestial Guardians onwards, the Shiny cards included have been reprints with extra art and holo effects.
Eevee Grove Breaking the Shiny Mold Can Extend its Relevance
If Eevee Grove breaks this trend, it will expand the set’s shelf life even more. Shinies in TCG Pocket are only just a little bit harder to get than other special cards according to the rates, which makes them great surprises when fans are aiming for one card and end up finding themselves with a Shiny instead. Eevee and its Kanto evolutions have been in the game since Genetic Apex, with Leafeon and Glaceon being added with Space-Time Smackdown.
If there are any shinies in-line with the pack’s theme, these six cards are the likeliest option, but not worth holding out for. Following the trends seen in Celestial Guardians and Extradimensional Crisis, other unrelated cards are likely to be reprinted instead. It’s likely that any Eevee and evolution Shinies may be kept for a future set, but Eevee Grove still has plenty of prominence for fans with or without shiny variants of its star critters.
Even as the mobile Pokemon Trading Card Game‘s meta evolves, the app puts a heavy emphasis on collecting that will likely encourage players to keep Eevee Grove in Wonder Picks and Community Showcases for a very long time. Through these mechanics, Eevee Grove has the chance to take over the app long after launch in a way no other pack has done before. Eevee fans will keep collecting these cards until they’re satisfied, and the genetically adaptive creature is such a popular powerhouse that those players will be replaced when others finish with the booster set, especially since it might take a few sets for new Eevee cards to be made after the critter’s spotlight ends. It’s very likely that Pokemon TCG Pocket is about to showcase just how important Eevee is to fans in a brand-new way.
