Remedy Entertainment’s new first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak is having trouble finding an audience on PC, with the game’s peak concurrent player count below 2,000 following its June 17 release. Set in the Control universe, FBC: Firebreak is Remedy’s first multiplayer game, and feedback from both players and critics has been mixed so far.
Officially announced in June 2021, FBC: Firebreak was properly revealed during the Xbox Partner preview in October 2024, with a gameplay trailer following in March 2025. While including some live service elements, the $40 title doesn’t feature many less popular elements of the model, with no daily check-ins or battle passes to boost engagement. Fans were excited to learn that the multiplayer shooter would be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, along with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Unfortunately, while player numbers on console have yet to be revealed, FBC: Firebreak isn’t having an easy time on PC.

FBC: Firebreak is a big swing for Remedy Entertainment that’s definitely worthy of a few cheers.
According to SteamDB, FBC: Firebreak‘s all-time peak concurrent player count on the platform is 1,992, with only 245 users jumping in over the past 24 hours. To put this into perspective, many of Remedy’s older titles are seeing much more engagement, with both Control and Max Payne 3, the latter of which is over a decade old, pulling in more players in the last day. Currently sitting at an average review rating of “Mixed” on Steam, players are frustrated with FBC: Firebreak‘s lack of tutorials and overall content available at launch, with many able to complete the game in only a day or two. Additionally, matchmaking has been a headache for many users, with players taking to the Steam Forums to report that they’ve been unable to find a single game on any mode.

The lack of content in the game is something that Remedy hopes to fix, with FBC: Firebreak set to receive two major content updates in the future. According to Thomas Puha, the company’s Communications Director, the development team hopes to gain valuable feedback during the title’s first few weeks on the market, after which it will decide what content will be added to FBC: Firebreak throughout 2026. Updates are also planned for both Fall and Winter 2025, which will add new jobsites, equipment, enemies, rewards, and more.
While the game hasn’t gotten off on the right foot with some, others hope that FBC: Firebreak could set the stage for Control 2. While the new shooter doesn’t have much story to speak of, the text seen on the game’s loading screens mentions popular characters from the action-adventure title. Remedy bought the rights to the Control franchise in 2024, and with several outlets naming it Game of the Year, audiences think it needs to make a comeback.
