Sam’s love for Lou couldn’t be stronger in Death Stranding 2, and it seems, despite the necessity to connect continents to the Chiral Network, he couldn’t just leave Lou behind. Players can continue their journey with Sam and Lou, AKA BB-28, but as a Bridge Baby, Lou is going to need checking up on to play with and soothe against the feared BTs.

Death Stranding 2 has a few difficulty options for players to select, but which of them is right for your playstyle, and what will it affect?
Players are going to want to keep Lou happy and stop Lou from crying in Death Stranding 2, and they can find out exactly how to do that below by checking in on the adorable baby as they travel across Australia for an epic odyssey.
How to Check On Lou in Death Stranding 2
Players can check on Lou by holding L1 and tapping Down on the D-Pad. This will enter a 1st-person camera where Sam will pick up Lou to see how she is holding up. If players just hold L1, then they can look to the bottom left to see Lou’s emotional state. If Lou is happy, then she will giggle and provide Sam with likes. However, if Lou is agitated and upset, then she will cry, which makes a lot of noise to alert nearby enemies such as MULEs and BTs, so it’s vital to know how to soothe Lou in case the poor baby becomes upset.
How to Soothe Lou in Death Stranding 2
What Happens if You Don’t Soothe Lou?
Players can ensure that Lou stays happy by soothing her. Players can soothe Lou by checking in on her and then by using their PS5 controller to gently rock the controller up and down, which triggers the motion sensor to mimic Sam’s hands rocking Lou in-game. Players can change the motion sensor controls for soothing Lou by selecting the Options button, then heading into Settings, then to Controls, where they will see Controls for Soothing Lou, which can be switched between Motion Sensor and the Left Stick. It’s important to soothe Lou, as Lou will become distressed when encountering BTs or when Sam falls and delves into deep waters. Lou can also be soothed by specific signs, and by entering Sam’s Private Room.
If the player ignores Lou’s cries and does not soothe her, then she will eventually deactivate and become a mass of tentacles from within the BB pod. During this state, Lou cannot be soothed, and will not detect BTs. To cure Lou of this state, simply head to any Private Room to rest.
