Nightdive Studios has revealed that the upcoming System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will be delayed for consoles. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster was set to release on June 26 on all platforms, but it seems that it’ll only be available on PC on this date, with console gamers now having to wait a few more weeks to finally get their hands on it.
The System Shock franchise began in 1994 with the release of the first game, widely considered one of the most influential PC games of the 90s. The critical success of the title led to a sequel, and System Shock 2 was released in 1999. Back in 2019, Nightdive Studios announced System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, which was supposed to come out “soon.” After many years, the eagerly awaited System Shock 2 remaster is finally around the corner, but there’s some bad news for console players.

The System Shock Remake Should Just Be the First Stop of a Longer Journey
Nightdive Studios’ reimagining of the classic FPS/immersive sim hybrid System Shock should pave the way for another ambitious remake.
Nightdive Studios has announced on social media that the team “encountered issues” that have prevented them from releasing System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 26. According to the developer, these issues are already being worked on, and a release is expected to happen sometime during the first two weeks of July. Fortunately, the PC version of the System Shock 2 remaster will still be available on June 26, with the title being available on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Humble Bundle.
When Will System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster Be Released on Consoles?
- System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will release sometime in the first two weeks of July 2025.
Fans are excited to see how Nightdive Studios has improved on System Shock 2, considering the team’s work on the first System Shock remake. Released in 2023, the remake of the first game in the series was generally well-received by old-school fans, as it kept most of the original’s design while making some graphical and quality-of-life improvements that kept the experience fresh.
Unfortunately, the eagerly awaited System Shock 3 still does not have a release date. Earlier this year, Nightdive Studios commented on System Shock 3, which was originally announced in 2015. According to the studio’s director of business development, Larry Kuperman, System Shock 3 is in a “very complicated situation,” and he believes that it may take at least a year or more before a clear update on the project can be shared. While this is unfortunate news for fans of the franchise, at least the remaster of System Shock 2 is shaping up to release soon.
