Z-A Rumors and Leaks Explained

Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been confirmed for an October release this year, coming on October 16 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the latter including improved graphics and consistent 60 FPS during gameplay. With the game taking place in Lumiose City and bringing back the beloved Mega Evolution gimmick, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is generating a lot of hype, especially considering it will be the only mainline release of the year as Gen 10 takes the backseat until 2026. Between the TeraLeak and various prominent leakers within the community, a lot is already known about the game, though many leaks remain unconfirmed so far.

One of the earliest leaks for the game was that its starters would be the same as Gen 6 games, and while there could have been some credibility attached to it, the leak ended up being wrong when the lineup of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile as starters was revealed. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is also quite different from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and its battle mechanics are arguably an evolution over its predecessor’s, thanks to the in-battle dodges. Several big leaks are awaiting confirmation, though, and hopefully, the Pokemon Presents in July sheds some light on what the game has to offer.

    • Mega Dragalge (Gen 6)
    • Mega Hawlucha (Gen 6)

    • Mega Drampa (Gen 7)
    • Mega Falinks (Gen 8)
  • No new Pokemon will be in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, nor will any new forms.
  • Mega Evolution energy charges in battle, rather than always being ready to use.
  • Zeraora was supposed to get a Meta Evolution that was scrapped in development.
  • Zygarde is number 230 in the Pokedex, and it’s the last Pokemon in it.
  • Alpha Pokemon from Pokemon Legends: Arceus are back.
  • Players can battle rogue Mega Pokemon, much like Alpha Pokemon.
  • Not all Mega Evolutions will return. The list so far includes:

    • Mega Latios (Gen 3)
    • Mega Latias (Gen 3)
    • Mega Rayquaza (Gen 3)
  • Some characters will return, like:

    • Mable (as a Pokemon Professor)
    • Lysandre
    • Looker
    • Grisham
  • Calem and Serena won’t return.
  • Lysandre has a connection to Zygarde and can speak to and for the Pokemon via telepathy.
  • The ultimate weapon will return, possibly being rebuilt under Lumiose City.
  • Not all ranks in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s battle royale from Z to A will be playable, and some will be skipped.
  • The final battle in the battle royale is against a character named ‘Ange,’ which is French for “angel.”

Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Leaks Paint a Clear Picture

Having 26 new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is great, and some of them will gain new types. Clefable is allegedly Fairy/Flying, Meganium is Grass/Fairy, Feraligatr is Water/Dragon, and Barbaracle is Rock/Fighting, whereas the others stay the same.

The fact that there will be no new Pokemon or forms may be sad for fans, but this detail seems supported by the fact that datamining in Pokemon Home has not yielded any new results over time. A Mega Evolution for Zeraora would have been interesting to see, but while originally included, it was later scrapped – it’s unclear if this was after the TeraLeak.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A not including Rayquaza, Latios, and Latias can make sense, as these were important parts of the Mega Evolution lore in Hoenn. More surprising would be the return of Alpha Pokemon as well as the ability to battle rogue Mega Pokemon, which, if true, could make for some impressive boss battles in the game. Story leaks are pretty vague right now, and they don’t come from some of the most trustworthy sources out there, so players will have to wait and see. All leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, though, and the July showcase may finally confirm some or do the opposite.
