Annoying New Xbox Feature Can Be Turned Off, Here’s How

Some Xbox players have been unhappy with the introduction of the new Game Hubs feature, but there is an easy way to turn it off. The new Game Hubs feature was part of a recent Xbox update, but it didn’t resonate with part of the fanbase, as its introduction meant that they needed an extra step to start playing games immediately.

The Xbox Series X/S was originally released on November 10, 2020. Since then, Microsoft has often updated the Xbox Series X/S, bringing new features for players. While Microsoft stopped sharing official numbers some time ago, reports from earlier this year have estimated that the Xbox Series X/S sold around 30 million units by November 2024.

The output by Xbox Game Studios and other publishers under the Microsoft umbrella is reaching dizzying new heights.

Now, Microsoft has added the new Game Hubs feature to its consoles during a recent Xbox Series X/S update, and this move has not been well-received by some gamers. With Game Hubs enabled, players get taken to a screen that features information about the title, such as achievements, friends currently playing the game, available add-ons, and more, instead of allowing them to start playing immediately. Fortunately, the new feature is quite easy to turn off. To disable Xbox’s Game Hubs, go to “My Games and Apps,” then “Apps,” “Settings,” “General,” “Personalization,” and finally “Games and Apps.” Then, gamers should scroll to the right and uncheck all three boxes below the phrase: “Choose whether game hubs open automatically from the following places.”

How To Deactivate Xbox’s New Game Hubs Feature

  • On the Xbox home screen, go to “My Games and Apps.”
  • Then, go to “Apps,” “Settings,” “General,” and “Personalization.”
  • Go to “Games and Apps,” then scroll to the right until the three boxes below “Choose whether game hubs open automatically from the following places.”
  • Uncheck the boxes on all three options: “Recently Played List,” “Groups,” and “Installed Games.”

Fortunately, not all recent changes made to Xbox were poorly received by the player base. Last month, for example, Xbox made some helpful UI changes, introducing new ways for gamers to personalize their Home screen.

A few days ago, Xbox also added 15 more titles to “Stream Your Own Game.” Gamers who own some popular games such as Final Fantasy 16, Nier: Automata, and Valheim can finally stream them using Xbox’s cloud gaming services.

It remains to be seen how Xbox will continue to evolve in the coming years. Apart from the already announced Xbox handhelds, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, Microsoft is developing the next-gen Xbox, but not much is currently known about it. According to recent rumors shared by a credible industry insider, however, the next-gen Xbox could be twice as powerful as the Series X/S and be released in 2027. In any case, it’s always best to take rumors with a grain of salt and wait until Microsoft finally unveils the platform.
