Nintendo Direct Could Reveal 2024 GOTY Nominee for the Switch 2

Metaphor: ReFantazio may be revealed for the Nintendo Switch 2 during a rumored Direct stream in July. Atlus’ JRPG was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, and if this new report is to be believed, even more players will be able to experience Metaphor: ReFantazio for themselves very soon.

In October 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio managed to sell one million copies on release day while earning both critical and commercial acclaim. Particular credit was given to the title’s themes, narrative, and characters, with the Atlus title incorporating elements from the Persona franchise into an entirely new fantasy world. Although sales of Metaphor: ReFantazio have dropped, the game has sold over two million copies to date, with fans clamoring for a sequel. Now, even more gamers may get a chance to try out the award-winning RPG, with a potential new port in the works.

During a recent episode of the Nontendo Podcast, YouTuber BeatEmUps stated that the next Nintendo Direct will be broadcast in July. Additionally, the creator claimed that Metaphor: ReFantazio was currently in the works for the new system, with the game’s reveal coming during the upcoming livestream. While no source for the claims is provided, many Nintendo fans believe that a Direct is overdue, with the most recent stream entirely dedicated to Donkey Kong Bananza. Many are eager to see what’s coming next for the new hybrid console, as the Switch 2 launched with only two first-party titles, and many previously announced games have yet to receive release dates.

This isn’t the first time that Metaphor: ReFantazio has been rumored for the Switch 2, as in January, a well-known leaker stated that the title would be released within the system’s “launch window.” This implies that it could be released by the end of 2025, and according to other reports, Persona 3 Reload may also be making a leap to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future. The remake of Persona 3 became the fastest-selling game in the franchise upon its release in early 2024, with one million units sold in the first week.

During the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, Persona 4 Revival was revealed after months of persistent rumors, but a recent fiscal report from Sega indicated that the highly anticipated remake won’t be hitting shelves until at least April 2026. The game is also not slated for a Nintendo Switch 2 release, though this could potentially change. The reveal, while great news for some, has also disheartened fans eager to learn more about Persona 6, as it seems that the next installment in the popular series won’t be released any time soon.
