An enterprising engineer in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has designed a flying vehicle that consumes no power and, at least theoretically, should be able to keep on going forever. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s vehicles typically aren’t built to last, but this design’s special approach sidesteps that problem by offering a flying machine that requires no battery.
The latest game in The Legend of Zelda franchise that places Link in the starring role passed its second anniversary last month, but players’ ability to build unique constructs and vehicles like this one is keeping it fresh in many fans’ minds. Also aiding the longevity of the series’ recent games are the recent upgrades to Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild in early June, which optimized them for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and added some special features and achievements.

Reddit user scalhoun03 recently revealed a new flying device, sharing a video that shows it propelling itself through the use of two giant back-mounted springs. These two springs are simply attached to the back of one of the infinite forms of Tears of the Kingdom‘s Wing Devices, which can normally be acquired from Zonai Device Dispensers all across Hyrule. Utilizing this simplistic design, the player says this vehicle can fly perpetually across the overworld’s landscape, providing transportation without the risk of running out of energy.
Tears of the Kingdom Fan Designs Perpetual Flight Wing
This isn’t the first time that a player has used spring technology to power a Wing’s propulsion system, as others have shared similar designs dating back to the game’s earliest days in 2023. However, the simple design of this newly-revealed vehicle is special in a different way. By not incorporating any weapons onto the Wing while simultaneously relying on springs to keep it in motion, this vehicle doesn’t require the use of Tears of the Kingdom‘s Zonai Batteries, and that trade-off is specifically what allows it to serve as an infinite glider. Still, others have suggested adding weapons to the design, which would result in a flying vehicle that only uses up power in combat and can otherwise fly forever.
There are also plenty of other devices that players have constructed utilizing Tears of the Kingdom’s spring physics. These include slingshot-like catapult devices that can be used to launch Link across the map, but that method of airborne transportation seems a lot less stylish and harder to control than the Wing-based method of travel.
